Games That I've Completed

Posting a game on this list doesn't mean that I've unlocked 100% of it, it just means that I have at least completed the Story portion of the game, or whatever the main focus of the game is.

SCORES:

10/10 - Nothing is perfect, but a 10 is pretty much something that excels at everything that it does and is highly enjoyable. A 10 is a rarity. Easy contender for one of the best games of all time.

9/10 - While it has a few minor flaws that prevent it from being a 10, it still excels at everything it does. Contender for one of the best games of all time.

8/10 - While it might have a lot of minor flaws, or even one big flaw, it's still a great game and is worth checking out. Possibly one of the best games of all time, or at least a "Game of the Year" contender.

7/10 - Still a decent experience, even if it's not amazing by any stretch. Still worth checking out.

6/10 - An above average game. Can still be enjoyable under the right circumstances, such as being cheap/free, or appealing to a certain demographic.

5/10 - Distinctly average. Nothing really good about, but nothing really terrible either. Basically the most boring types of games. This is where I stop being able to recommend a game.

4/10 - A below average game. This is where a games problems start to overshadow the game. Whether it be technical problems, or the simple fact that the game is either unpolished, lacks features, or can't overcome just how boring or unappealing it is.

3/10 - A 3 out of 10 might have some good ideas or features, but is a buggy and/or half finished mess. Possible contender for one of the worst games of all time, or at least worst game of the year of release.

2/10 - It might have a few minor good things about it, but the whole thing is still a complete disaster. Easy contender for one of the worst video games of all time.

1/10 - Literally unplayable. Buggy game, broken mechanics, ugly graphics, annoying sound, poorly written story, bad multiplayer. Easy contender for one of the worst video games of all time, period.

GUILTY PLEASURE - A game that has many flaws or is unappealing to the majority of people, but can be enjoyed regardless.

NOTE: 8's, 9's, and 10's are games worth playing immediately. 6's and 7's are worth playing on a sale, or are already cheap.

Anything below a 6/10, I recommend avoiding.

I try to avoid using decimals as much I can, but I do use them once in a blue moon.

    -Half-Life: Edge of Darkness (6/10) - 24/09/2022

    -Half-Life: B7 Black Star (7/10) - 25/09/2022

Black Star feels a version of Half-Life that came from an alternate universe where it was made by a Russian Company instead of an American company.

It more impressive on a technical level than the original Half-Life, having more detailed weapons, objects, and character models, but doesn't push the engine like "Paranoia" or "Cry of Fear" did.

  • 8/10

  • PC: 8/10

    MODS:

Stanley Parable (8/10): The score is for the quality of the mod versus other mods, not the quality of the mod versus the final finished standalone product.

    MINERVA: Metastasis (8/10)

    Get A Life (?/10)

    Weekday Warrior (7/10)

    Research & Development (9/10)

  • PC: 7/10

Personally, this is the weakest out of the Half-Life 2 episodes for me. This is the one I struggle to remember the most, and the one I'm most bored when I replay it, but it still has all of the Valve touches that makes their games good.

  • PC: 8/10

    MODS:

Entropy: Zero - (6/10): It's rough around the edges, is on the shorter side, and feels like someones first project, but it was a good first attempt and clearly lead into bigger and better things made obvious in it's sequel.

Entropy: Zero 2 (08/09/2022) - (7/10): It's pretty decently designed for a mod but personally I don't like all the one-liners and references to other media.

  • 8/10

A beautiful looking and sounding adventure game that is definitively worth playing. It doesn't hold your hand during the puzzles and lets you explore on your own.

    My Full Review - https://cultclassiccornervideogames.wordpress.com/2018/01/18/the-vanishing-of-ethan-carter-2014-2015-pc-xbox-one-ps4-review/

  • 360: 8/10

    PC: 8/10

Some of the textures and models and textures have aged like milk on a hot day. But the game makes up for it with great lighting, level design and atmosphere. The melee combat is the highlight of the gameplay.

    COMPLETED DIFFICULTY: Hard

  • 7/10

Takes the series in a baffling direction for it's plot, but is still pretty good on it's own. The best parts of the game are the doll factory and the bear attack.

  • 360/PS3: 6/10

    PC: 3/10

This game had some potential. The idea of Pandora's Box unleashing creatures from all of those legends built up the millennia is a fantastic idea, and the game manages to do some interesting stuff, like having a skyscraper sized golem smashing through a city, causing panic as you try to get through the damaged parts of the city, all while griffons attack the running citizens as they try to escape.

But the whole thing is brought down due to I'm assuming a very limited budget and time limit, which is a shame.

While the console versions are mediocre at best, the PC version is broken, with al elevator at the end of the game now working unless you go and modify one of the .ini files to limit the framerate.

  • OG Xbox: 9/10

    OG PC: 9/10

One of the greatest First Person Shooters for a console, and pretty much defined the control scheme for all future FPS games for consoles.

  • OG XBOX: 9/10

    OG PC: 8/10

If the first game set the standard for how an FPS should play on console, then this set the standard for how multiplayer should work on a console. And considering that the version we got was made in 18 months, it's kinda amazing how good it is.

However, the game ends on a bullshit cliffhanger and an underwhelming boss battle. I know it was a result of short development time, but that doesn't stop it from being disappointing.

I can't believe that Microsoft thought that Games For Windows Live was a good idea, let alone to staple it onto Halo 2. If you have a copy of the original PC version, go download a copy of Project Cartographer so you can not only continue playing the multiplayer, but play it with various mods.

  • 360: 9/10

  • 360: 8/10

  • 8/10

  • 360: 8/10

    PC: 5/10

You need the 'Gentlemen of the Row' fan patch to even play the PC version without it crashing. Also, the 'Gentlemen of the Row' fan patch adds in a bunch of content left out of the PC version.

  • 8/10

  • 8/10

    MODS:

Portal: Prelude (5/10) - A lot of the humor is cringy, the text-to-speech for the new characters dialogue takes me out of the mod, a lot of the puzzles are a mixed bag with good ideas but middling execution, it has music by 'The Chemical Brothers' that doesn't fit with the original games tone, and the whole thing is redundant since Portal 2 came out, but considering that this was the only game in town when it came to half-way decent Portal mods at the time, you could do a lot worse.

  • 9/10

  • PC: 6/10

    OG XBOX: 6/10

Doom 3 has one of the worst shotguns that I've seen in a first person shooter, period. The spread is terrible, even for a video game. I shouldn't have to be 3 feet in front of someone, so close that they could punch me in the face, for a gun to effectively kill them. And even then, it doesn't always work.

The art direction is pretty good. The Mars base has this nice lived in feel, and the monster and hell designs are fantastic. Going through the PDAs and reading peoples emails and listening to their audiologs shows that there was some thought put into the characters and world.

    BFG Edition: 4/10

It's a worse version of both Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil.

    MODS:

    Shambler's Castle 8/10 - https://cultclassiccornervideogames.wordpress.com/2019/06/30/mod-corner-shamblers-castle-doom-3-review/

  • PC: 9/10

I'm willing to say that this is one of the best First Person Shooters of all time. The scares and story are incredibly cliched, but that's not really not why you're playing this game. The graphics might be incredibly grey, but a lot of it still holds up incredibly well today.

The slow motion and combat are some of the best out there in a FPS game to this day.

  • PC: 8/10

Not canonical with the rest of the franchise, but it's a great expansion pack to F.E.A.R., has more of the excellent gameplay from the first game.

  • PC: 6/10

Like the first expansion, it's not canonical with the rest of the franchise. Unlike the first expansion pack, this doesn't hold up all that well. It barely gets by on the amazing gameplay from the first F.E.A.R. The new levels and new weapons look awful.

At least it has Steve Blum in it.

  • PC: 8/10

Some of the dialogue is incredibly cringey.

"You're like free pizza at an anime convention. She can smell you. And she wants to consume you."

"You could even say she covets you. ...She's a... coveter."

What the fuck is this writing?

Not as good as the original, but still an OK time. Has a good atmosphere.

  • PC: 8/10

Short piece of DLC. Doesn't add a whole lot to the game, but it's probably the best part of F.E.A.R. 2.

  • PC: 5/10

Literally one of the most mediocre games that I've ever played. I'd say that at least it has co-op so you can play it with friends, but everything is more fun with friends, so it's a compliment rendered mute. Plus it's a horror game, and co-op kinda kills the whole horror vibe.

The only reason it gets a 5 is that it could be worse. At least it's not F.E.A.R. Online.

  • PC: 7.5/10

    NSFW.

An underrated horror stealth game by Rockstar. It's very gritty with an uncomfortable atmosphere and has a lot of gore. If you want to experience a good but uncomfortable horror game, this is for you. Not for the faint of heart. It's a little clunky and rough around the edges, but it's a decent horror game.

    My Full Review - https://cultclassiccornervideogames.wordpress.com/2018/10/09/manhunt-2003-pc-ps2-xbox-review/

  • PC: 7/10

    Very NSFW.

It goes up to 11 with it's explicit content, and sacrifices the excellent creepy and uncomfortable atmospheric tone of the first. Still fine in it's own way, but not as good as the first.

  • 7/10

An underrated family friendly point-and-click fantasy game written and designed by Al Lowe.

  • Original: 8/10

    Gold Edition: 8/10

  • Catherine Classic: 7.5/10

  • PC: 5/10

Another terrible/mediocre video game tie-in to a movie. Unlike most video game movie tie-ins, it does have SOME good ideas, like the trust mechanic, squad mechanic, and testing the blood of other characters, but unfortunately all of these features are so bare bones that it makes them pointless.

You could literally test someones blood, it tests negative for the person being a thing, and two feet later they turn into a thing despite no one else being around to infect the person. Either the tests are bullshit, or the ideas are poorly implemented.

It could have been a lot worse since it wasn't rushed out for a movie, but it could have been a lot better. I don't blame anyone for liking it, but I just can't call it good by any stretch of the imagination.

  • 8/10

  • 7/10

  • PC: 8/10

Pretty much a cheesy 80s/90s action movie in video game form. Also has neat gore effects. Worth checking out. A little on the tougher side.

    My Full Review - https://cultclassiccornervideogames.wordpress.com/2019/05/11/soldier-of-fortune-2000-pc-ps2-dreamcast/

  • PC: 4/10

Unfairly difficult. Boss battles are literally a guy who is a bullet sponge. Story is so boring, cliched, and forgettable that I literally forgot it while I was playing. Which is extra hilarious since it ends on a cliffhanger.

Like Portal, but instead of robots and portals, it has Cthulhu and magnets. Decent first person puzzler.

  • 7/10

Cheesy, campy 90's FMV game. Definitely worth checking if you like FMV games and B-Movies. Trevor is best character.

  • OG XBOX: 6/10

Pretty much "Michael Bay: The Video Game". It does look fantastic for a PS2/XBOX game. The gameplay is mediocre and standard FPS fair, and the story is absolute dog shit.

For a game that claims to have the focus on the guns, it does a piss poor job representing them.

  • XBOX: 8/10

    PS2: 8/10

    GCN: 8/10

One of my favourite Tony Hawk games next to THPS2.

The driving sections are absolute trash and make Deadly Premonition's driving look like Gran Turismo in comparison. I don't know why you would include driving sections in a skateboarding game.

  • XBOX: 8/10

    PS2: 8/10

    GCN: 8/10

Feels like the story mode is trying just a little too hard with it's juvenile humor. Vehicles are still bullshit.

  • PC: 9/10

    XBOX/PS2: 8/10

As far as ports of games that were developed for the PC first, Max Payne is a pretty good port considering that this was still at a time when PC games ported to consoles still had some weirdness to them.

The real time cutscenes can be paused, which is a nice addition.

Pausing the game has the camera move around Max Payne's character model while the action is paused. It really fits with the game's slow motion John Woo aesthetic and shows you what is happening if you happened to pause in the middle of combat. I know that it was put in to prevent burn in of CRT TVs since they were still heavily used at the time, but it actually fits the game.

The text for the comic book cutscenes was also changed for smaller CRT TVs, but it's still amusing to me seeing such unfitting text.

The game also comes with an option in the controls menu that lets you lock onto enemies, which is really helpful and makes combat a bit better.

It even comes with a few features from the PC version, like being able to revisit the cutscenes that you've come across up until that point along with the tutorial, which is much needed for a console port like this.

My only complaint about the PS2 and original XBOX version is that the jumping puzzles were the worst part of the game on the PC, and are a step down on the consoles since the game is stuck with a controller.

    MODS:

    Kung Fu 3.0 8/10

    Katana - 8/10

    Polar Payne 8/10

    Polar Paradise 8/10

  • PC: 9/10

    MODS:

    7th Serpent: Crossfire 8/10

    7th Serpent: Genesis 8/10

    M:I - New Dawn 8/10

    Santego Special Unit - 6/10 (COMPLETED: DD/MM/YYYY 16/06/2021)

  • PC: 6/10

One thing i can give DN:F credit for, it does have variety in the gameplay like some of the classic FPS games on the Build engine. More than I can say for most modern FPS games. Still awkward to play in places.

The loading times for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are atrocious, and both versions also look muddy compared to the PC version, which look above average at the best of times.

The Doctor Who Cloned Me DLC: 6/10

The reason that I enjoyed this DLC might be because it's shorter, but I do think it's an improvement. Yeah, that might be because the DLC is 90% reused assets from the base game, but it does come across as more focused than the base game.

  • 8/10

Very, very, VERY NSFW. If explicit sexual content or a lot of gore offends you, don't play. But if you don't mind that or enjoy playing things with that type of content, it's worth playing.

  • Nintendo 64: 8/10

    Doom 64 EX: 8/10

An underrated game in the Doom franchise that seems to be getting the recognition it deserves in recent years. It's more atmospheric than Ultimate Doom/Doom II/Final Doom, and is pretty much Doom 3 before Doom 3. Worth checking out. One of the best Nintendo 64 games.

  • 7/10

It's dumb fun. Can't really hate it for that.

  • 4/10

Every aspect of this is so bad that I literally can't list all of it here. Buggy game, generic gameplay, muddy graphics, truly awful story. The only redeeming thing is the mildly entertaining multiplayer, but everything is better with friends, so that's a backhanded compliment at best.

Go play any other Alien game instead. There are so many good Alien games that you could trip and fall over one of them simply looking for one. The Atari 2600 Alien game is better, and that game was just a mediocre Pac-Man clone.

  • 6/10

If you like atmospheric walking simulators, go play this. There isn't much too it other than that.

  • 7/10

I feel like this game gets a bad wrap. Even if it's nowhere as good as the original Unreal, or the Unreal Tournament series, it's definitely worth checking out. The story and voice acting is a bit meh.

The one positive thing I can say about this game is that the art style is top notch.

  • 6/10

A mediocre FPS with one neat moment half way through the game.

  • PC: 6/10

More of Doom 3. I can't tell if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

  • 7/10

The swinging gameplay mechanic is pretty fun. The games art is also gorgeous.

  • 8/10

I wish the story could have been followed up on. A sequel with better gameplay and destruction could have been amazing, especially on the PS4 and Xbox One.

Instead of crashing into cars to take them out like in the Burnout games, you can destroy the environment to take out other drivers.

  • PC: 9/10

One of the best First Person Shooters of all time. Has one of the rare good underwater FPS sections.

  • 5/10

It's story is a rip off of Total Recall. It's an incredibly mediocre FPS that's easily forgettable. The graphics range from "meh" to broken and buggy.

    My Full Review - https://cultclassiccornervideogames.wordpress.com/2017/03/14/chaser-2003-pc-review/

  • 8/10

Feels like a Agatha Christie novel. Worth checking out if you like point-and-click adventure games.

  • 7/10

It's terrain destruction is a bit simple now, but it's still neat. There's even a level as a special feature to show off the destructible environments. The story is kinda weak and mostly there just to move the game along.

  • 6/10

It keeps the terrain destruction from the first game, but it feels more like a side step rather than an evolution of the feature. It's story is also pretty forgettable.

  • 5/10

It's an on-rails FMV game. Not so-bad-it's-good, but not really all that good either. Unless you like cheesy 90's FMV games or playing/collecting older stuff.

The story behind this game is more interesting than the game itself.

  • 8/10

Better than Fallout 3, probably because people from the original two games worked on it. Bethesda would never admit that this is better.

    Dead Money DLC: 7/10

The Dead Money expansion is borderline unfairly difficult. But the atmosphere and story is top notch.

    Honest Hearts DLC: 8/10

Courier's Stash + Gun Runners' Arsenal DLC: N/A - It just adds more weapons and stuff to New Vegas. It's a good addition, but I can't really give it a rating.

    MODS:

    Autumn Leaves (9/10)

    More Perks Mod (9/10)

    New Vegas Uncut (MoBurma) (9/10)

  • 8/10

The concept of a Visual Novel where you end up in a relationship with a girl who has a disability might not appeal to everyone, but it doesn't turn it into a gimmick and tries to tell an actual story. Worth checking out.

  • 2/10

It's ~art~, that means it's off limits to criticizing. Because art can't be bad for some reason.

  • 8/10

It's an adorable point-and-click game with some nice sprite work. Definitely worth checking out if you like point-and-click adventures.

  • 7/10

Pretty decent adventure game. Relies a little too heavily on nostalgia, but worth checking out. People wouldn't have shit on this as hard as they did if the first trailer made it seem to be a horror game instead of an emotional game about family.

  • 8/10

Completed the Remastered version for the PC. Man, this has a lot of shout outs to other indie games. Pretty decent.

  • 7/10

Good, but not great. For an open world game, it sure feels pretty linear.

    Operation: Anchorage DLC: 7/10

A great over-the-top look at what the Brotherhood of Steel propaganda looks like.

    Broken Steel DLC: 7/10

It fixes some of the ending of Fallout 3 but it then gives you shit for pointing out the flaws of the original ending.

  • 5/10

Layers of fear is a fantastic looking game and has a good atmosphere and soundtrack, but 95% is opening draws to find things. So much so that the multiple endings are dependent on it. If you like the subject matter and/or presentation, you will enjoy this. But personally, I found this to be just OK.

    Inheritance DLC: 5/10

I like the DLC a tad bit more than the main game, but that's probably because it's both shorter and actually fleshes the story of the main game.

    My Full Review - https://cultclassiccornervideogames.wordpress.com/2020/10/03/layers-of-fear-inheritance-2016-review/

  • 6/10

It has some neat graphical features due to the gameplay involving time travel, but the rest of the game is just sort of forgettable.

  • 2/10

The main character is kinda whiny. Not worth tolerating his mopeyness for the experience. Really short too. Unless you're desperate for any "art" games, avoid this.

  • 7.5/10

The graphics and gameplay are really solid. It's a tad shallow, but I still wholly recommend it.

Decent game but a tad underwhelming. There are a few minor nitpicks, such as the main character being able to use his ghostly abilities a little too quickly, mastering some of them mere seconds see other ghosts use their ghostly powers. He even mentions that he's unsure of how to use it right before the game gives you a tutorial on how to use them.

It's side quests are kinda pointless, and are only short ghost stories. If you have no incentive to do them yourselves, you could find them on YouTube.

Some of the jokes are a bit corny, but it's humor and puzzles thoroughly enjoyable.

The best game running on the Build Engine. Pretty much Duke Nukem 3D but with a horror coat of paint. The humor has aged a lot better than Duke 3D's.

    Blood: Fresh Supply - 8/10

Fresh Supply might have a few minor glitches and balance issues., but it's the best way of playing the game with modern bells and whistles, such as a higher resolution.

More of Blood. Not going to turn down more of Blood.

    Even more of Blood.

Pretty decent point-and-click game. Nothing amazing, but a fun time. I'm a pretty big Back to the Future fan, so I absolutely loved this.

  • 8/10

It's not quite a classic, but I feel like it's underrated.

  • Arcade: 8/10

The arcade version of this game is probably the best version of this game. I doubt that it's ever going to get a re-release, so you should seek it out by "other means".

I know that a lot of people are going to disagree on me with this game, but I thought that it was just an OK game.

Good game, bad Max Payne game. If it was called something like Man On Fire: The Video Game instead of Max Payne, it would have been a better experience. Although, if the Max Payne brand wasn't slapped onto it, I probably wouldn't have even have thought of buying it as much as I did.

The game looks and sounds fantastic. The soundtrack is also fantastic, shout out to the band behind it, Health, for doing a really good job.

The gameplay is a mixed bag. General movement feels sluggish and heavy, like Max Payne is swimming through Molasses. You have to wait for animations to complete before you can even finish firing off your gun along with general movement, and it ruins some split second gameplay. Half the time i think I'm going to shoot at someone but I end up shooting at the roof because the current animation I'm in isn't finished and it has the gun aimed up at the roof. The original two games were light and fast, even without a comparison.

The tacked on multiplayer can be pretty fun with friends or a good community, but the audience for Max Payne doesn't really want a multiplayer component. Good luck finding a good game with randoms. All off them are so good at the game at this point, it isn't any fun unless you're playing with friends.

  • Can't give this a score because it's a demo. What would I even rate it?

It's a demo for Half-Life, but instead of having a small segment from the game itself, it uses a part of the game that was cut out the single play to show off the game was about instead. It's more Half-Life, and it's pretty hard to turn down more Half-Life.

A sci-fi action adventure with cowboys, dinosaurs, aliens, and a crazy A.I. What more could you ask for?

The alien designs are fantastic. Despite being a mix of things that wouldn't work, it ends up being decent. It runs on the GoldSrc engine, so it's a pretty solid FPS game.

Out of all of the Bloober Team games that I've played, this is probably the best one, even if it is a rip-off of Blade Runner.

    Observer: System Redux: 8/10

Adds in a bunch of new content and polishes up the graphics.

The developers updated the game with new voice actor for the main character. I never got to hear it, but it would have been nice to be able to switch between the two or have another version with the old voice acting, even if it wasn't as good.

My favorite Frictional Games game so far. Looking over the edge of cliffs underwater gave me a bit of vertigo, but in a good way.

If this wasn't interactive and was just a regular movie, this would have been forgotten even quicker than it already was. Too bad it got overshadowed by a better written live action choose-your-own-adventure with Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.

This game crashes way more than it should (I don't know that that's because I was alt-tabbing or not), and it significantly brings down what could have been a short fun experience.

If it didn't continually crash, this might have been a 5/10, maybe even a 6/10.

    8/10 - Remastered, Completed: 08/10/2019

The extra features in the Remastered Version, such as the Director's Commentary and the Challenge Rooms from the PS3 version, are really nice.

One of the best games of 2007. 2007 was such a solid year in terms of video games.

Most of my complaints are minor nitpicks.

The one big problem this game has is that there is an annoying maze half way through the game. While it's not the worst maze in an adventure game, it's still tedious to get through, and you don't have to go back through it once you made it through. Mazes are terrible, even in the best of games.

The game also has a feature that when the game crashes, you can load back to just before it crashes, preventing major progress loss. This is such a good features that I'm more surprised that more games didn't have it at the time.

It's literally Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 but with a Disney/Pixar coat of paint and a few less skate tricks to make it easier for kids. There's not too much too it, but that's to be expected from a quick cash-grab.

Sure, the whole concept pretty much exists to promote the Pixar and Disney movies that were big at the time, but you can do a whole hell of a lot worse. I've played original games that were worse than this.
