2015 in Gaming

This is a list of all the games that I've completed in 2015. Woop!

List items

  • 1/2/2015: I dunno, I was really hoping for more out of this one. I got a few laughs out of it, but I got hit by a few bugs that turned me off.

  • 1/3/2015: Wow, this game was *exactly* what I want out of tower defense. Most levels were completable without "grinding," but the option was there for levels that I couldn't take on immediately after the last one. All the upgrades provide a very satisfying feeling of progress. Just really great.

  • 1/4/2015: I wanted to love this game, I really did. I was expecting this to be more of a puzzle platformer, but it felt more like an adventure game. The story didn't do it for me either. Very pretty, though, so it's got that going for it, which is nice.

  • 1/12/2015: I enjoyed my time with this game quite a bit, but I thought the nemesis system was WAY overhyped. Many words were written about it being one of the first truly "NEXT GEN" systems, but it seemed like a glorified random number generator to me. Still, it was fun to play, and the mechanics were plenty solid for a good time.

  • 1/13/2015: What can I say about this game that hasn't already been said? Tight controls, spot on humor, not too long, not too short and super fun. Great all around.

  • 1/26/2015: Another step in my mission to play through all the MGS games for the first time before Phantom Pain. What an incredible experience. I loved this game so much I kind of wish there *weren't* any MGS games after it. It's super fan service-y, but damn does it "finish" things. I'm a sucker for good/complete endings (even when there's some deus ex machina involved), and this one satisfied me for sure.

  • 2/15/2015: My first JRPG is a long ass time. Took me a while to get into it, but once I did I couldn't escape. I loved everything about the characters and stories until the very end when it goes super "JRPG ENDING MONSTER," but I'll give it a pass because the rest of the game is so brilliant. I credit this game with both getting me into anime and driving me to actually start learning Japanese.

  • 3/1/2015: Finally got around to playing this through. The controls are pretty dated, but I loved everything else about it. I didn't even mind leading the girl around, though I expected that to be terrible. Also, there's a reveal at the end that just left me reeling. At least I think it's a reveal. I'm kind of slow sometimes. Maybe I was supposed to figure it out on my own, but I didn't so it was a reveal and it was great.
