Whilst most mature gamers will understand that a 'beta is a beta', I think Austin's point is relevant when we consider the reality of the situation.
I'd put money on their being a raft of young people out there, who where convinced that pre-ordering would get them in to a 'early access' game, and who will be disappointed because of the result. That may not be right; it may be misguided, or even just plain dumb but that's the reality.
In that case, all this does is give the SF franchise a bad name amongst a sector of the target market. That's bad for that game, and bad for gaming in general, and the cause is money-grabbing (who the heck pays to become a tester anyway?) pre-ordering market strategy.
