Weekend Gaming! 11.05.10

I've been rather productive this week, gaming and otherwise.  I finished Fable III (which I'll be writing up some thoughts on soon), Split/Second, Super Meat Boy (light worlds) and Red Dead Redemption's Undead Nightmare DLC.  On the non-gaming front, I voted, changed my own oil, and wrapped up several projects at work.  Here's what I'll be playing this weekend:

  • Halo: Reach (360):  I'll  be jumping into the multiplayer a bit this weekend before Black Ops comes out on Tuesday.  Let me know if you want to play: JMoney156.
  • Guitar Hero 5  (360):  Still playing through the guitar career.  I'm not really enjoying the set list and I hope it gets better, but I'm really enjoying the interface changes from the last Guitar Hero I played ( Guitar Hero 3).
  • Red Steel 2 (Wii):  The combat in this game is really fun even though the mission structure is repetitive and the story is incredibly boring.  I believe I'm roughly halfway through the game.
  • Trauma Team  (Wii):  I'll be playing more of this co-op on Sunday with Jimmah7.

Weekend Gaming! 10.30.10

Even with the girlfriend home this weekend I've got plenty of time to game while she's studying:

  • Fable III (360):  This game has some serious technical issues, much more than the second game.  Poor design choice and overall lack of ... attention lead to an overall underwhelming experience.  I'm extremely disappointed with what Fable III is so far, when compared to Fable II which is better in nearly every aspect.  With that said,  the charming world, interesting characters and laugh-out-loud dialogue have allowed me to push through 18 hours in 4 days.  Maybe it's just the hope of it getting better that keeps pushing me through it, but I'm at the "endgame" it doesn't seem likely.
  • Super Meat Boy (XBLA):  This may be my favorite platformer of all time.  I haven't played it much over the past week, but I'd like to finish it this weekend.  Also, I'll suggest picking up the soundtrack over at their website for $3.99 and up.  dB soundworks did a great job on it!
  • Red Dead Redemption (360):  I'm going to jump back into this to check out the Undead Nightmare DLC.  Don't forget, if you spend 2400 points on XBLA games and DLC this month (October), you get 800 free.
  • MGS: Peace Walker (PSP):  I'm still messing around with Extra Ops missions and I'm nearly 28 hours in.
  • Trauma Team (Wii):  Jimmah7 and I have been playing through this co-op and the mission that are actually co-op are really fun.  We might crack open Trauma Center: New Blood as well, but I'd like to finish Trauma Team first.

If you'll excuse me, I've gotta go pour one out for Gran Turismo 5, which won't be coming out this week ... still keeping my fingers crossed for a 2010 release though.

Weekend Gaming! (or not) 10.24.10

I can't believe it's been a month since I last updated!  It has been an extremely busy month and I've been especially busy on Fridays lately, which is when I usually update this.  I've got to leave for Long Island on Sunday for business and any free time I have today will be spent playing Super Meat Boy (XBLA).  Check out the demo, I think it's easily worth $10 (only on sale through Nov. 21, I think).  I'm currently on World 4 and it's one of my favorite XBLA games, up there with Geometry Wars, Shadow Complex, and Limbo.

Anyway, here's a quick list of what I've been playing over the past month:

  • Halo: Reach (360):  I've finished the campaign on Heroic and played some multiplayer.
  • Dead Space Extraction (Wii):  I've played through the entire campaign since I last posted and played a little bit of co-op with jimmah7.  It's not the best Wii game out there, but it's a good deal at $16.
  • Alan Wake (360):  I've played through both DLC packs (The Signal and The Writer).  The Signal was alright (but free), but The Writer was great ($7).
  • Dead Rising 2: Case Zero (XBLA):  Not only did I finish the story, but I also S-Rank this (pretty easy).  S-rank #7.
  • NFS: Shift (360):  Played through the entire game, but there are still stars to go back and get.  I most likely won't bother doing that this holiday season with so much else to play, especially NFS: Hot Pursuit!
  • MGS: Peace Walker (PSP):  I finished the game on Wednesday with 24.5 hours in.  I plan on playing this a lot more to finish up the Extra Ops, especially with my trip to Long Island over the next three days.  Easily my favorite PSP game to date, even though the camera controls are a bit difficult to deal with.

Can't wait for Fable III on Tuesday!  Still debating Rock Band 3.

GO PATS!!

Weekend Gaming! 09.17.10

Besides a party I'm going to tonight and when I go see The Town tomorrow, I think I'm going to devote most of my weekend to gaming.  Here's what I'll be playing:

  • Halo: Reach (360):  So a new Halo game came out this week, huh?  I'll make the time to play through three more missions on Heroic to beat the campaign, but I'll mostly be focusing on Team Slayer and Big Team Battle, while also playing more of the much improved firefight.  Might check out Forge mode, but probably won't bother with that yet.
  • DJ Hero (360):  I will finish this game this weekend.  I think I've only got six sets left to complete.  Great game, especially for about $50.
  • Madden 11 (360):  I won the Superbowl last weekend with my Patriots team!  The cutscene at the end seemed really out of place, but whatever.  I'm going to start my next season and delve into the multiplayer a bit more.
  • Dead Space Extraction (Wii):  I didn't get to play this last weekend, but I'm going to start it as soon as I finish writing this.
  • Metroid: Other M (Wii):  This isn't as bad as I thought it would be, but that's not saying it's good.  A lot of control issues and uninteresting cutscenes may lead to me giving up on this game.

Weekend Gaming! 09.10.10

I'm going on an all-day hike tomorrow in the White Mountains and I'm going to visit my girlfriend on Sunday, so I won't have much time for gaming other than tonight.  Here's what I'll be playing tonight and Sunday night:

  • DJ Hero (360):  After putting this down for a few weeks to play some traditional games, I saw the DJ Hero 2 demo on the XBL Marketplace.  I feel like I should finish the first before the second comes out next month, so I'm going to try to get a few sets done this weekend.
  • Guitar Hero 5 (360):  I don't have high expectations for this but I thought, "$10 for 85 songs?  Why not?!"  I'm going to tackle the guitar career mode for now and get to the drums later.
I would have gone for #1, but 11 is my favorite number.  #realtalk
I would have gone for #1, but 11 is my favorite number.  #realtalk
  • Madden 11 (360):  I've completed all the Madden Moments just in time for them to release the weekly Madden Moments, which is an awesome feature.  On my first try I'm currently #11 in the world (I think) on this Madden Moment (pictured right)!  This weekend I'll be finishing my last game in the regular season (currently 14-1) and trying to win the Superbowl before starting another season on a harder difficulty.
  • Dead Space Extraction (Wii):  I've heard I'll probably start and finish this in one sitting, due to my love for light-gun games and its shortness.  I'm definitely looking forward to it though!

Can't wait for the Pats game on Sunday and Halo Reach next Tuesday!  What are you guys playing this weekend?

Weekend Gaming! 09.03.10

I finished New Super Mario Bros. Wii with my girlfriend last Friday, and I also managed to start and finish House of the Dead: Overkill for the Wii.  My girlfriend is going back to college, so I'm going to move her in on Sunday.  It is a long weekend for me though, so here's what I'll be playing:

  • Alan Wake (360):  Currently at the beginning of Episode 6, I feel like I'm coming close to wrapping up the story.  The story and atmosphere really suck me in every time I sit down to play it.  I wish the episodes were a bit shorter, but it's a minor complaint.
  • Madden 11 (360):  I'm 8-1 in my Patriots franchise season!  I only have about 4 Madden Moments left to wrap up, which I'll be attempting this weekend.  I played my first online game last weekend and after messing up my first PAT, I still managed to win 40-31.
  • Monday Night Combat (XBLA):  Again, I need to play more of this.  I wish there was some real progression in the game to drive me to want to play it more, and with a game like Alan Wake sitting in my disc drive, it's hard boot up MNC.
  • House of the Dead: Overkill (Wii):  I'm really enjoying this game for its mindless fun.  Sure, it's really short, but I bought it for $15 on Amazon and there's plenty of replayability to dive into over the weekend to unlocking all the weapons and weapon upgrades.  I'm also curious to find out what the mini-games are.

I've gone ahead and ordered Dead Space Extraction for $20 on Amazon since I've been enjoying HOTD: Overkill so much and I also picked up Guitar Hero 5 for $10 because it seemed like a decent deal and got me up over $25 to get free shipping.  Can't wait for the NFL season to start in 6 days!

Weekend Gaming! 08.27.10

So I rented and completed Splinter Cell: Conviction on Wednesday.  Yeah, one day.  I stayed up until 3:30am, totally worth it, haha.  Here's what I'll be playing this weekend:

  • Alan Wake (360):  I picked this up from Dell last week while it was on sale for $25.  I completed Episode 1 this morning and I'm loving this game so far.  I can't talk about it without spoiling it, so all I'll say is I love how atmospheric it is.  I'm going to play through Episode 2 and 3 this weekend, maybe 4 as well.
  • New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii):  Currently at level 8-5, my girlfriend and I are one play session away from beating it, which is good because I'll be helping her move back to college next weekend.  We've stocked up on lives and are ready to take on the last four levels tonight.
  • Madden 11 (360):  I'm 7-1 in my Patriots franchise season and getting really excited about the NFL season starting.  I've completed about half of the Madden Moments so far and I'm going to jump online this weekend and try some online games, probably going to get my ass handed to me.
  • Monday Night Combat (XBLA):  I NEED to fix my internet connection and play some of this over the weekend!

Patriots may have lost last night, but I'll take watching this touchdown over a win almost anyday.

Weekend Gaming! 08.20.10

Last weekend I went camping, but I still managed to finish Super Mario Galaxy 2, God of War II and DeathSpank since my last update.  I've now complete as many games (26) this year as I had in 2009 and it's only mid-August. It was kinda surprising, but I suppose a lot of the games I'm finishing are substantially shorter.  Here's what I'll be playing this weekend:

  • Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii):  I've barely scratched the surface of Twilight Princess.  Last time I tried playing it 3 years ago I fell asleep within 20 minutes.  Hopefully I'll actually be able to get past the opening section of the game this weekend.
  • Madden 11 (360):  I've completed my 4 preseason games and I'm currently 2-1 in my Patriots franchise regular season.  I might jump online this weekend to check out the team play mode, but I have a feeling I'll just stick to my franchise for now.
  • Monday Night Combat (XBLA):  My internet connection always sucks when I'm trying to join parties on XBL, so I haven't been able to play this with my friends yet, but I'll try to fix it this weekend.
  • New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii):  I'm going to attempt to wrap this up with the girlfriend this weekend, as she's moving to Maine in two weeks.  We're on World 7 now, so we should be able to finish it.

Weekend Gaming! 08.06.10

I wrapped up God of War last week and I've got a bit of time to play some games this weekend, but I'm going to try to spend most of my time outside.  Here's the short list:

  • DeathSpank (XBLA):  I'm still really enjoying this game, but I find myself skipping through most of the dialogue to get back to the combat and questing.  I don't think I have more than an hour or two left.
  • Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii):  Still working my way through this one.  Very slowly.

Looking forward to the start of NFL preseason (Cowboys/Bengals) on Sunday night, as well as Madden '11 on Tuesday, Monday Night Combat on Wednesday and Patriots preseason opener on Thursday!  I'm also thinking about finally fixing my desktop PC now that I've got the money for it.

Weekend Gaming! 07.23.10

I wrapped up Limbo, Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time and Sam & Max Episode 102 all in the past week, so I'm feeling pretty productive on the gaming front.  Here's what I'll be playing this weekend:

  • DJ Hero (360):  I got the Renegade Edition from Amazon for $55 last week and it just came in the mail yesterday.  I've completed all of the tutorials and the first five sets already and it's a blast to play.  I can do a few songs on Hard, but mostly Medium.
  • God of War (PS3):  I've got the God of War Collection because I wanted to play through the first two again (technically I never finished the second) before getting into God of War III.  I'm just past the Sirens now and I plan on finishing this over the weekend.
  • DeathSpank (XBLA):  The voice acting is really getting on my nerves and I'm not finding the comedy as funny as the reviewers had me believe, but I'm enjoying the gameplay a lot.  It's very much like Diablo II / Torchlight, but it controls like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.  I might have time to finish this over the weekend as well, but probably not.
  • Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii):  I know, I should have beat this already, but it's just not sucking me in like I thought it would.  I'm right around the 60-star mark.
  • Sam & Max Episode 103 (PC):  I really enjoyed 101, but didn't like 102 nearly as much.  I think it was the setting and repetitiveness that got to me.  Hopefully I'll enjoy the third as much as the first.  I'm currently trying to play through one episode per week and it seems doable.  That way I can catch up on Sam & Max and move onto other games I've purchased on Steam.

I'm flying into Long Island (Islip) next week for business, so hit me up with some good food spots down there if you're familiar with the area.

EDIT:  I also got an invite to the CoHO beta, so I'll be checking that out too.
