The Laws of Video game Modding

Al Gore invented the internet, Cavemen began sharing ideas, and suddenly Google images became filled with images of  Sims in the shower. The history of people messing with games for their own evil ends demands that we lay down the laws that define it.

List items

  • Every game needs a 1-1

Level 1-1 is the most finely crafted platforming level this side of the mushroom kingdom. From its blocky start to its stunning flag climax, its a thrill ride of emotions. It also makes a beautiful Quake level.

  • Naturalism is a necessary part of every video game.

Video game nerds are creepy, and so if they get the urge to see what Zoey is really packing, they will totally mod the hell out of it. New Vegas got it's own Nude mod within five days of release and Hillary Clinton got all in a tussle when some ten year olds found a way to reveal the barbie doll nudity of the Sims.

  • If there is an Achievement, people will do whatever they can to get it.

No one really wants to grind out every achievement in TF2, its too bad really. Oh

wait, you made a level that allows people to grind out hundreds of sentry kills with ease! FANTASTIC!

Just don't mess with the cat.

  • The undead make everything better.

My favorite part of Counterstrike was the part where you had to fight off millions of undead. Actually, no, it was way cooler in Company of Heroes.
