Game of the year 2011

List items

  • Being such a huge batman fan I take great comfort in the sterling effort rocksteady puts into the franchise. The glorious combat engine makes for one hell of a game mechanic that keeps you going back to the challenge rooms just hoping to pefect your carnage through the horde of goons. Add to that a fantastic story, side quests featuring some of batmans rogue gallery and an open portion of Gotham to explore and you're onto a winner. A very well deserved game of the year.

  • Bringing the Deus Ex franchise out of retirement had some worried - i was personally interested upon seeing the first trailer. The world is gorgeous, the upgrades are interesting and the game is a joy to play. Sneaking hasn't been this satisfying since Solid Snake and when it works it feels incredibly rewarding. With mystery and intrigue at every corner this game pushes you to play more and rewards you with a well crafted and engaging first person shooter. And yes - Adam Jensen does sound like Shawn Michaels.

  • I love the multiplayer - I am good at the multiplayer - I am more then happy to put aside hour upon hour to play this game. Offering me what i want as opposed to Call of Duty. I find myself very much in tune with Battlefield 3. The single player is questionable and tries far to hard to be it's direct competition, but it's all about that multiplayer.

  • Every box for how to make a great game is ticked with Bastion. I challenge anyone to play 30 seconds of this game and not want to play anymore. It's fresh, it's gorgeous and everything about it is amazing. If you haven't played this - pick it up. It's worth a heck of alot more then what you pay for it.

  • The John McClane of the archaeological world, Nathan Drake, continues his never ending run of last minute good luck in Uncharted 3. A game that sees great writting, great cinematics, great gameplay and a great exlusive title for the PS3 that sees 360 and pc fanboys alike sob wildly into their pillows. Everyone should play this game.

  • Cloning facilities, flying motor cycles, a tron style world, a walking toilet in a gun fight, tanks, transformer style jets...and that's not even getting to the real crazy stuff that's in Saints Row the third. It's bat shit crazy but it's hard not to enjoy an open world this off the wall.

  • A great addition to the franchise and some genuine scares can be had - although for the most part the shock and awe is turned up to 11. Dead Space 2 sees the return of Issac Clark for another round of dismemberment and carnage. I didn't even touch the multiplayer.

  • Want to feel like a super hero with electric powers - want an epic storyline with moral choices and leveling up? Want an open world environment that looks cool and is a giant playground just for you? Welcome to Infamous 2. I loved the original and loved this one - I am very interested to see where this franchise goes in the future...hopefully the way i'd like to see it go.

  • Giant bomb's biggest disappointment of 2011 is on my best of 2011. Say what you will, say the conversation system was dumbed down, say you could only play as one race as opposed to being able to pick from 4 or more, say what you like. But at the end of the day this game still offered a great experience with some really original and well written companions for you to quest with. The fact i'll be finishing my replay of this in early 2012 having already poured a fair amount of hours into an original playthough is testiment to the fun that can be had with this game.

  • Crazy, crazy game. But Crazy in a good way. Overlooked by many, Shadows of the Damned was the adventures of Garcia 'fucking' Hotspur in hell with his sidekick skull Johnson...a side kick skull that could also transform into a motorcycle. Read the giant books found around the world and thank me later - they're comedy gold.
