10 Things That Have All But Ruined Modern Warfare 2 Multi-Player

List items

  • 1886. Do I need to say anything else? The concept of dual wielding sawed off shotguns itself should be enough to convince you this was a bad idea. Supposedly Infinity Ward patched the 1886 and greatly reduced its range but I still find myself practically being sniped by them. When you see someone running at you with two P90s with the triggers held down you realize that this was the point Infinity Ward gave up any effort at realism.

  • Shotguns were essentially worthless in the first Modern Warfare. They were the choice of the elite players who enjoyed the challenge of trying to hold their own with such an inferior weapon. In Modern Warfare 2 not only are the shotguns a one hit kill most times, each of them benefit from an absurd range that makes me wonder why they did not just include an ACOG scope for them. Did I mention the 1886?

  • Some refer to it as "defensive play" I call it boring. While sitting behind a barrel where only your head is visible for the entire match waiting on the off chance that four or five guys might cross in front of you may give you an impressive kill to death ratio, it's also soul crushingly boring. This tactic may have had its place in more slow paced shooters of old such as Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, and SOCOM, but in the twitch multi-player of Modern Warfare 2 it's simply a bitch move.

  • All too often in kill cams I see myself being shot in one position when on my screen I was in a completely different position. This is most frequently the case when I round a corner trying to get away from someone who has the advantage only to drop dead. On my screen the wall was already between myself and the enemy but when I watch the kill cam there I am standing right out in the open.

  • Although there are those I am sure who could make a case for why it should exist, in my experience it's normally just a tool used for gaming the system. Particularly in Free for All matches, it is often used by players to boost for a tactical nuke or some other high end kill streak reward.

  • Of Course these things are useless and stupid even in the most skilled of hands, but you can add annoying to that list just the same. We all know the guy using this is usually the one who goes 5-22, but that does nothing to change the fact that every time you see one of these guys your reaction is the same "Oh fuck here we go again, where's my semtex."

  • The match making in Modern Warfare 2 is simply awful. The most obvious reason being that at times it can take forever to locate a match. In fact, the more people you have in your party the worse this problem becomes. In addition, match making seems to be completely random with no underlying system attempting to match players of similar skill level with one another. Call of Duty still cannot seem to get right what the folks at Bungie perfected back in 2004.

  • The decision to remove party chat from certain multiplayer modes is indefensible in my mind. We were told it was to reduce the occurrence of cheating as Party Chat might allow players on opposing teams to communicate information to their friends that they should not. This excuse is made all the more absurd by the fact that the game has been victimized by a string of glitches allowing players to cheat all they want until a patch comes out. In the mean time here I am getting dominated by a nine year old exploiting the care package glitch who I then have to hear talk shit in the post game lobby because there's no party chat allowed in Team Deathmatch.

  • Glitches or exploits, whatever you chose to call them, Modern Warfare 2 has had its fair share. Just to name and/or describe a few: Javeline glitch, unlimited ammo glitch, unlimited care package glitch, care package grenade running speed glitch, [insert next glitch to be discovered here]. To be fair Infinity Ward has been much better about patching these out unlike the wild west attitude they took toward the first Modern Warfare.

  • Ok so this one is a bit of a stretch but you get the idea. This perk would not be so bad if it simply replenished your ammunition, but it also replenishes things such as grenades, grenade launcher ammunition, claymore mines, etc. This allows players to go around endlessly firing their grenade launchers coupled with the perk Danger Close that increases the effective range of their explosive weapons. I didn't think it was possible to make "n00b tubes" any more of a pain in the ass.
