Being around people would be my number one suggestion.  When you leave yourself to your own devices things can get bad quickly.  Coming from someone who's pretty self deprecating, isolating yourself can be about the worst thing you can do.  Even if I'm feeling like complete shit, one good night out with my friends will completely turn things around for me mentally.  Closing the blinds and crawling into a hole often feels like the most comfortable thing to do but shoving yourself out the door does wonders. "
This. So much this.

I'm Mister_Penguin, and I'm a [soon to graduate] CS student at UW-Madison] I'll play pretty much any genre of game, but my main genres are probably turn-based strategy/4x games and FPS games. [Although I'm trying to get into fighting games. It's a bit hard without any other enthusiasts near me and a dearth of affordable sticks.]

Outside of that, I like reading, listening to music, backpacking, SCUBA, quality booze, and fine dining.

OS X Snow Leopard and Windows 7 [although I haven't booted into my Windows partition in a year - I bought it just so I could run Quartus II's student edition, and totally forgot to track down any windows drivers for gaming, since my MacBook doesn't have that much gaming horsepower and Windows 7 wasn't officially supported when I bought it. Since I have Steam and Civ IV for Mac, I'm okay for the near future, I think ; ) ]

Edit: I also have OpenSolaris and Ubuntu something or other on my VirtualBox setup.
