@monetarydread: idk... I tried again many times after that and was unable to reproduce, getting like 40-50 seconds at most, guess that was a freak occurrence.

edit: actually now that I think about it you're right, I am able to consistently get to at least 40-45 seconds doing this and that is when the first spider comes right? so yeah heh, it is kinda effective.

Better off just running around, getting used to the movement and edge of the arena. Just spread shot 3 or 4 times when the skulls spawn, usually leaves 2 or 3 and the horned one. Just shoot them regularly by leading in front of them. More then enough time to kill them to be ready for the next spawn.

I generally get to around 55 seconds consistently, but I always fail in the same way, getting completely overwhelmed when I try and take down the giant spiderskullthing.

This game is great at reminding me how much my FPS skills have diminished over the years, but wow, what a game it is.

I hit the same barrier. My way around that was to practice using the shotgun more. I find that it does a better job at killing all the enemies in the beginning. Less enemies in the beginnning means that I don't have to worry about being swarmed when the spider comes. Then four or five good shots with the shotgun and spiders done for.

A lot of the time I have a clear board when I get to the spider, or at least try too. The only problem I run in to is if the Horned Skull with the ridged horns spawns near the spider. Sometimes I should be focusing on killing the Skull first. It's not that bad to lose 1 gem to the spider if you have too, since You wont need the second upgrade until way later in the game. I am still losing most of the time to the waves during the giant insect fight.

Edit:

New High score finally. It's frustrating to feel stuck but dying in the same spot often has lead to me getting better at left-right bunny hopping. Which probably the fastest movement in the game? I don't use it too much when things get crazy unless i'm trying to run away. Also been doing a lot of rocket jumping for fun on the first few waves.

It smells like strawberries in here.

My entire adult life, I am turning 26 in a few weeks. 8 Years doesn't sound like a long time, but so much has happened it feels like multiple eras.

As shitty as it is to generalize, I think many of the commenters are young people with out income. I don't understand why people have to bandwagon up all the time. Dog pile on a something they don't understand. Complaining about what people spend their money on is crazy to me.

Value for value. If they don't want to pay for what the game is no one is forcing them. I think it's pretty rude to dump on something like that.

OK thanks, have a much better idea of how to approach the game now.

Also, when you get to "the ending," can you keep doing puzzles? Does your file reset?

You can load a save from the finale and then exit that area the way you came in.

@bbalpert: Thanks a bunch! weird thing is I'm positive load game was not an option till I tried it just now. I started a new game right before I saw your post, so maybe you have to have more than one game to load?

Yes, after the end game.

421 +13 Solved. I've been sick for days, this game has been like a fever dream. I recommend exploring as soon as you get stuck on a puzzle for more then 30 mins. There are many areas to do easier puzzles in, don't commit to one at a time.

After thinking about it, I'm feeling more negative towards these audio logs. Even disregarding the content, they still feel out of place. One special thing about the puzzles in The Witness is that none of them involve words or require words to explain. It's a game that doesn't require language, yet somehow, there's a lot of talking.

I have completed all the areas of the game. And only found 3 so far. None of them mentioned god either. Anyways the few I found were exciting just to have another reason to take in the environment. Reminds me of what I do with my ipod wandering around my city some times. Maybe I am just weird. Also my wondering is usually to video game podcasts. Not quotes about class, religion and life.

I've not run in to them much, so my play through has been close to what you are suggesting would have been good. It's hard to say if that is true or not. At least I haven't found anything to object to, or put me off from enjoying the game. Maybe if I found like 20 of those recordings I might not like them any more.

!End game spoiler!

There is much more then audio logs.. things get weird.

The core of this game is looking at things from a different perspective. You can think the audio recorders are cheesey, but their philosophical nature fits with the overall tone of the game.

Yeah, no matter the content of the quotes it's just random stuff to think about. Much like the entire game really.

@blaineblaine:

Don't look things up until after you have completed the "tutorials" for the 10 areas. Don't assume to know the rules, adjust your understanding with each puzzle panel in a set.
