Not perfect, but well worth the price of admission 0

I've played a few visual novels before, but I wouldn't describe myself as a fan of the genre. I wanted to activate my Steam account, but I have an old macbook and my choices were limited. I went with this game because I had heard of it before, and I was interested to see how it played out. This game basically consists of a series of logs you can read, in order to solve the mystery of what happened to the citizens of a generation ship. I knew little other than that going in, so I was unspoiled...

I didn't expect a game this dark and awesome on the 3ds! 0

I have a long history with jrpgs. I started out with Final Fantasy VIII and was immediately hooked. I came late to the Shin Megami Tensei series, first playing the persona games in 2012. When I saw there was a new game for the 3ds I was intrigued, but I'd not played the predecessor, Nocturne. When the Fire Emblem/SMT promotion came out I had a new 3ds and decided to go for it.Let me tell you straight out - I love this game. It's nearly perfect as far as RPGs go. It improves in every way on the S...

Yes, it's strange. Play it. 0

I love the music of Frederic Chopin. He is my favorite composer of piano music, no contest. But when I saw that there was a game where he was a playable character? Well, I thought that was strange. But whatever - I've played so many strange games over the years that playing a game set in the fever dreams of 19th century composer hardly phases me. And this game? I love it. It's not the best RPG ever, but it just has so much charm! The game looks great, with hand drawn backdrops in every scene. Th...

Unusual atmosphere 0

Shadow Hearts is one of the overlooked classics of the PS2 era. Set in 1910s China and Europe, it has a flavor that is markedly different from other J-RPGs. The characters are endearing, even Yuri (your character - he starts out oddly, but in the end he is revealed to be more complicated than his joking exterior would reveal.) The battle mechanics are turn based, but the judgement ring adds a new factor. Graphics are, to be honest, not great. We're talking barely better than PS1 era here. ...

Good mechanics, too much fan service 0

Final Fantasy X was my favorite of the series. In particular I loved Yuna - the summoner who faces difficult choices with a grave dignity, no matter what she is asked to sacrifice. Unfortunately, in X-2 she has apparently decided to get rid of her previous personality entirely, in favor of some unholy combo of Rikku (who is super annoying here... and I didn't mind her in X) and a Spice Girl. I'm not arguing with the concept of character development - of course Yuna would have changed after ...
