@Neckbear: Because it isn't hypocrisy.

HTH.

if it's not hypocrisy, then what is it? Tell us. Stop dodging the damn question and tell us in detail what you think about a woman with rather suggestive pictures voicing an opinion about sexual objectification that seem at odds with her lifestyle choices.

Dressing sexy does not mean she is okay with sexual objectification. It just means she likes to dress sexy. Just like how wearing a miniskirt doesn't mean a woman is "asking for" for anything, be it simple catcalls or actual physical violence upon their persons.

A woman should be able to dress however she wants without fear of it negatively effecting her opinions on something. If she had come out and said that women shouldn't dress sexy and post those pictures in a public space, while doing the same thing herself, that would be hypocrisy.

(Does the fact that Jeff wears jorts, or that Ryan is overweight, negate their opinions on what a cool Tshirt is even though their sense of fashion is directly affected or called into question by those things - no. They can dress and be however they damn well choose, and as well they should be able to, just like a woman should be able to dress however she likes without it invalidating her.)

She didn't do that though. She said that people being totally okay with the selling, and using in advertising, something that depicts violence (I won't say if it's sexualized violence or not, as there is debate about that specific point in these comments right now) is sort of weird given how extremely strongly people react to the very same things in real life.

People are outraged by violence against women in all its forms, but see no problem with something that is a statue in tribute to violence against women, and that seems to send a really conflicting message. It isn't that people have a problem (some might, but that isn't the point being made anywhere here) with zombies in the game being female - it's the choice of the marketing firm to use something with very little context to the game (non-zombified female torso). She said, and it's up there if you want to check the actual wording instead of my paraphrasing, that it's super weird that people don't get that there might be a disconnect between our reactions to the two issues.

So no. I don't fucking see how anything she has said relates to how she chooses to dress or what she posts on twitter, or how that content is any way hypocritical given her actual quote here.

All I see is people acting like assholes trying to intimidate a woman by attacking the fact she's comfortable with her body.

Holy shit, you people are actually going through these women's twitter accounts to try to find things to discredit their opinion on how they feel AS WOMEN? Fucking disgusting. You should be ashamed.

But they aren't ashamed.

They think this is not only okay, but also fail to see the irony of their actions given that they're also fighting to prove that the normalization of sexism isn't a problem by doing this.

Are you out of your fucking mind?

"They're also fighting to prove that the normalization of sexism isn't a problem by doing this."

You think calling out someone for being a posting (if we're going to be hyperbolic about all of this, and use words completely out of context) objectifying images of themselves whilst simultaneously criticising the sexism of media ISN'T doing the exact opposite of what you said?

P. much, yeah.

You can post all the sexy pictures of yourself you want and still be able to criticize sexism in media and that isn't hypocrisy - one is a personal choice on a personal account, and the other is a widespread social problem.

Looks like a moderator deleted it, but there were two specific people posting in here who felt the need to strengthen their argument of "sexism in the games industry doesn't exist" by calling a woman who took a picture of herself a "camwhore" and claiming she was "whoring herself out" over twitter and, I just have to say, you two are all the evidence any sane person needs to see that misogyny in gaming culture is alive and well.

Dude, that thing was quoted many times - and defended by more than two people.

If someone talks about "slut shaming" one more time I'll bite their fucking fingers

Come at me, son!

Slut Shaming is what it's called when people go out of their way to try and use the way someone looks, how they dress, or their sexual history to discredit their opinion on something by making them appear to be a 'slut' - especially if such is done in a way that is meant to shame or intimidate the person into silence.

@JasonR86: They are trying to invalidate her opinion by shaming her.

They are literally trying to 'slut shame' a person who dared to hold an opinion about something while also having non-nude pictures on her private twitter account. To bully her, and to make other women afraid to speak up and speak out using their real names or faces for fear of the reprisal they might face.

@Chavtheworld: I dont know whats worse, missing the entire point of the article & what sexism is and means, or going on to attempt to slut shame some girl on twitter? Get fucked.

It's the second one.

Like, that's worse by a whole bunch because it's actively trying to bully women into not publicly making statements against sexism for fear of the reprisal they will face. It's an attempt to make it so every comment on the issue will need to be made as "Anonymous" and remove the faces and voices of women from a discussion.

And here we go. This is the problem. Right here.

It's a problem that i don't hold the same values as you?

Let's fight a video game statue to combat sexism, while women in India are raped publicly.

Lets never do anything ever because something worse is happening!

Talking about one thing means nothing can be done about anything else!!

Hyperbole and bullshit!
