I nearly crapped my pants when I saw
this. I have no idea how long this has been in the works, but this is the first I've heard of it.
First the bad news: Sam Raimi has been chosen as director. Yes, that's right, the man responsible for Spiderman 2 and 3 will be bringing Azeroth to the big screen. Blizzard Entertainment claims "Sam knows how to simultaneously satisfy the enthusiasts and the mainstream audience..." Excuse me? All the fans I know, myself included, were not at all pleased with the third Spiderman film. Spiderman 2 was pushing it, but was still sort of half enjoyable. On the other hand, he DID write and direct Army of Darkness, which was awesome.
Continuing on this positive note, Blizzard has signed Legendary Pictures to work on the film. Legendary has brought us Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Watchmen, just to name a few. Quaility stuff. Now, If any movie could possibly
break the
curse of videogame films, it would be Warcraft. The problem with
converting games to movies is that few games have compelling stories.
The Warcraft universe has SO much to offer in the story department.
Bottom line? I'm helluv excited about the possibility of Warcraft movie, and I'm willing to ignore Spiderman 3 (at least temporarily) and give Sam Raimi another chance to impress me.
