Actually, attacking the attackers is useful since they have limited tickets.  Taking a tank or two in say the 2nd and 3d stage and you can keep them back for a while while and costing them a nice amount of tickets.

The new (for PC) destruction capabilities changes the play style and adds a new level of strategy over bf2.  The new Rush mode (for PC users at least) is a lot of fun and requires difference tactics.

Its probably a balance thing to make defense easier.  However attackers having the copter would probably make it too easy for them to win.
 
Note that the beta is here for balance measuring, so the final map version could change.

btw, be sure to download the new update and use the server browser and choose US based servers (if you are in the US) - clicking play now somtimes gets me european ones which not so good pings.

Wake Island had few buildings so unless they add a lot of new stuff the previous iterations of the map don't lend themselves to destructibility.

I bought bf 2142 off EADM and had some wierd issues with downloading and applying patches, so I went with Steam this time.
 
I wonder if bfbc2 will have steam achievements, that would be sweet.

Any rage should be pointed at the no-modding choice they made, but I rarely ever played any bf2 mods.  As long as the game rocks on a PC and dedicated servers are abound, I'm fine.
