365 Games To Play Before You Die - #36-43: The Beginnings

365 Games To Play Before You Die

I'm going back to the start with some of the original gaming classics. All the games are influential in some way and are part f the reason the gaming industry is here today. They were all originally released before my time but they've all been ported on to nearly every system because of their reletive simplicity compared to today's standards. Also seeing as I'm a week late I can't really write several paragraphs for all 8 games because a) I don't think it'll fit and b) I don't have enough energy. One or two sentences will have to do.

Previous 5 Games

Note: I've just realised that direct blog links don't work so I've been directing you to nothing. I think the site guys are working on a fix but you can just look back through my blogs if you really want to see the past games I've talked about).

You can't argue with the popularity of a game which has sold in excess of 70 million copies. So I'm not going to.

Look out for the Asteroids movie which announced this year. It's being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (who worked on Transformers and G.I. Joe films) so you know it's going to be something special.

#41: Space Invaders

Platform(s): A lot
Release: 1979
Developer(s): Taito

It's hard to judge classic game by their greatness because they're all great. Instead, as you may have notice, I prefer to judge them by their mark on pop culture and Space Invaders has made a humorous impression.

One of the first and most fun multiplayer games (not this version but it layed down the gameplay mechanics) around. These days it's still a popular franchise with XBLA version recently selling over 500,000.

The game in today's blog of which I have the fondest memories. I just loved the level design and challenging yet rewarding gameplay.

43 down 322 to go.
