Oh man finally read Polygons review. Pretty entertaining stuff there. Took good old Arthur no longer than a paragraph to start sharpening the sexism pitchfork.
It would be a gross oversight for any reviewer not to mention it, and in fact every review I've read has mentioned it.
Not really, most european reviewers are doing a fine job glossing over it or not mentioning it at all since it's, you know, an optional goofy minigame that should hold little to no bearing on the overall product. What's odd is that they're giving it better scores, It's almost as if the game is being reviewed through this hateful lens where everything it does wrong is multiplied 10 times and immediately unforgivable.
Yes, websites like IGN Italia and Eurogamer Germany, where gamers go to know!
Way to go disregarding all of Europe, of course the only opinions that matter to "gamers"(lol) are from 'murica. I also like how you use Eurogamer as a source sentences later. I thought their opinion didn't count though?
What exactly do you mean by "the game is being reviewed through this hateful lens where everything it does wrong is multiplied 10 times and immediately unforgivable."
That statement makes no sense to me at all.
Hopefully you'll understand what I'm talking about in the upcoming few paragraphs but I wouldn't count on it since you're doing it right now.

In any case, literally every negative review that I've read for the game (Polygon, Game Informer, IGN, and Eurogamer) touch on the sexism but spend the majority of the written review discussing how the design of the game falls short of expectations.
The problem is that they put some focus on discussing a goof that fell flat in the first place, it really holds little to no bearing on the overall game but since it offended them, they're already looking to be spiteful. Not only that, but with todays "gaming journalism" feeling shocked by a sexualized aspect of a game and trying hard to be above it gets you revenue, but that's besides the point.
The people who gave it positive reviews weren't even bothered by it, they didn't care and therefore the gameplay was enjoyable because they weren't trying desperately to pick it apart. Isn't it odd that many of the technical shortcomings of recent games have been forgiven because the reviewer was already having a great time(skyrim, splinter cell blacklist, saints row IV) but when there's this veil of JUSTICE behind it, the reviewer is looking at the product through a "hateful lens" they purposefully look for flaws because they already hate the product. Understand now?

EUROGAMER
- "Killer is Dead suffers from a near-total lack of purpose or theme which leaves it as little more than a jumble of random imagery and camp dialogue with a few painfully clumsy winks at the camera to excuse it away."
- "Mondo is a paper-thin and slightly dour character - he certainly has none of Travis Touchdown's impish charisma - and he can't sustain the attention."
- "Shooting - performed over the shoulder - is less refined and not particularly well integrated, but it works well enough"
- "this is a solid swordfighting action game; generic, not particularly sophisticated, but presented with a gratifying, rhythmic flair."
ON THAT SEXISM: "It's sexist, it's grubby, it's voyeuristic and objectifying, and it's also a sad, lopsided and profoundly unsexy depiction of romantic interaction. It's not even funny - and the basic and boring gameplay, which mostly consists of waiting, certainly does nothing to redeem it."
Total number of words spent on dat sexism: 403
Total number of words in review: 1291
Okay, first of all are you seriously counting the words that talk about sexism? What a ridiculous argument and waste of time (this is a waste of time to but fuck it.) it doesn't matter how many words discuss a fucking mini-game, the
idea
that the mini-game offended them is already there when they sat down to write the fucking thing. They already have a skewed opinion, it doesn't matter if they gloss over it or talk about it for the whole review, their overall idea of "I was offended and therefore didn't have a good time" is already implanted, they didn't know it was a parody and hated the game by that point already.
Anyway, from what you've quoted(which is out of context by the way) it doesn't sound like a 5/10 game, since when do the personal ethics of the reviewer bring the score down considerably? If you hate a characters motivations in a film doesn't it mean the writers did a good job? Well, in videogames since it's interactive everything is the complete opposite and if you didn't like something in it, everything from the gameplay to the writing is now awful, that is completely against art. Generic yet servicable games get higher scores than that all the time, but they still felt the need to backpedal, going from calling aspects of the game "solid and full of flair" to then calling the overall product "gross and disgusting". Saying that you dont like a product because you didn't want the protagonist to be unlikeable is mental, since when have all protagonists been lawful good?
I'm not going to adress all of the other boring garbage that you spat out since it's just out of context quotes and the fact that you actually counted the sexism related words and compared them to the rest of the review is completely mental in my opinion. The problem with people like you is that you deal in extremes, I'm not saying the game is perfect but that doesn't mean that it's awful. But in your world there are only two opinions "OH GAWD I'M VOMITING FROM MUH EYES SHUT IT DOWN" and "OMG THIS IS SOOOO FUCKING GOOD". No one is defending the Gigolo mini-game, from what I've heard it's actually repetitive and boring, but it's optional and most sensible people disregarded it entirely, focusing on the actual gameplay first.
I'll actually be giving it a chance and checking it out for myself, it could be a shit game, it could be an awesome game. The point is that I'll be forming my own opinion and wont condemn it because someone told me it was sexist. It's really sad how you don't know that the sites you love so much are exploiting you for site traffic and revenue, they want attention and you're giving it right to them.
As someone already stated, I'm cannot wait until the trend of douchey tumblr social just warriors talking about videogames is over. You should know that you, yes youare part of the problem, you've fucked up this site and turned many "discussions" into a shitfest through a thin veil of "I'm being righteous and defending women" you're not. You're just feeding your own ego and bringing everyone down in the process, in other words you're that guy.
