The digital rights scandal

Over the past few months politicians have debated and generally not shown the digital rights bill for what it is, it has only been recently highlighted and makes and interesting read, for me to debate and highlight the issues of it, I wish to inform you of it using outside sources and articles.

Now I deeply suggest you go do some research this directly effects you more than you could imagine, the future of online gaming, video sharing sites and P2P depend on what happens over the next coming months and years.

This bill should be scrapped, not just rewritten or edited but FULLY scraped... It has no place in a modern society and evolved culture. It defies belief some of the idea they put forth, not only do they infringe on rights they are pants on head retarded.

If this bill got passed into hand then and this is not made up the following would become law

'Currently, if the bill passes into law, the owners of publicly-accessed wi-fi will be held responsible for content that is illegally downloaded by individuals using the hotspot.'

Guess what, now ISP's can prevent us visiting piracy websites... such as piratebay, but oh wait piratebay isn't piracy IT'S A SEARCH engine designed for finding stuff, like google. That would show bias would it not? If one could prove could can be used for piracy then google should be shut down.  With sufficient evidence ISP's could block access to this site even without evidence ISP's would block a website if only to prevent a lawsuit from copyright holders

If you live in Britain get in touch with your local MP and demand they vote against the bill, if this bill gets passed in it's current form it'll be a sad day.

The bill can shut down ANY user from using the internet if they are caught 3 times... firstly, you are cutting off a household and not a user, secondly in Europe in order to have a speeding fine you must PROVE person 'X' was speeding, you CANNOT by law fine a car. Because who pays? Seriously... could one not sue the ISP's for cutting off service to a household because one person pirates, or in Uni if you get caught pirating 3 times, the UNI should get cut off.

'said that the UK's creative industries experienced losses of 1.4bn euros (£1.2bn) in 2008 due to piracy.'

That's a lie, how do you prove that anyway? You can't just assume that because a person pirates he would have bought the £15 DVD. That's idiotic. Ok then here's one based no doubt of a similar fact and even then that £1.2bn is for the entire world presumably so how would this bill which only effects the UK have a large impact globally.

'said that the UK's creative industries of mrv losses of euros (£0) in 2008 due to piracy, because everyone who pirated the film wouldn't have bought the CD or DVD new. Also that's world wide right? This bill is domestic and that DATA IS IRRELEVANT.'

And this won't even stop piracy, here's why

It's that simple.

Now that seems all fine and dandy, put let's say I leave my front door unlocked and someone breaks in an steals something then I'd be done for stealing, no seriously... that's what it is. I want Paramount and Fox to have public wi-fi routers and I'll just pirate ALL their movies from them, they'd be technically pirating stuff they hold license to. THAT'S how backwards this is. In theory if one hacks into the most secure network then the owner could be liable, that's stupid, even with MAC address filtering one could bi-pass it. It would be funny if you did this in the house of parliament post bill and did it 3 times oh the irony.

So what should you do, well to be frank nothing, maybe secure your network would be best, read the information and in the end if you decide this bill isn't for the best then please get intact with your local MP and voice your opinion. This issue has yet to be brought into public nature and the sooner it is the better.
