What dissapointed me was the kindergarden approach to story and characters. The white knight Jim Raynor really really misses his princess Kerrigan, whom the zerg has forever corrupted and turned against him. He gets told in passing that he could pick up some legendary artifacts strewn across a wide variety of worlds, in order to sell them (???) so that he can buy some more soldiers. These Artifacts turn out to be magical "save kerrigan" artifacts, and are found just in time for the massive attack on her forces. How fortunate!
This turned starcraft from an interesting, if not somewhat good, story, into something recognizably bad. Kerrigan and Jim had been separated, and turned against each other, without any way to make peace. Kerrigan was on a irreversible course of destruction and hate. Jim had to either destroy what he loved, or be destroyed by it. Which was surprisingly dark.
Only to be brought together again by magic.
Not to mention that every single character was flat and boring. Stetman and whatever-that-reporters-name-was comes to mind, but the rest aren't much better.
Ofcourse, the first game didn't have an excellent story, but atleast it wasn't dogshit :(.
Also, Kerrigan went from looking and sounding like a real person (later like a real person brooding with unfulfilled lust for death) to looking and sounding like a hollywood actress. Bullshit!
In short, everything was dumbed down and hollywoodified. Not the most original criticism, but I don't care.
