I see what you're getting at, and I agree. I think it is a decent idea from a role playing stand point. However, role playing is largely dependent on flourishes and styles and doing something to make your character an individual and Dark Souls as a game is all about survival; and the best way to survive is to be efficient. Unfortunately, players of Dark Souls will quickly drop any form of individual style in order to be efficient and survive the brutality of the game. The introduction of PVP will make this doubly more true as everyone will forgo any set of armor they like for the best option available to them lest plan on getting the absolute tar beaten out of them.
But I'm probably looking much too far into your post. I like the idea, but thinking it could catch on, at least in Dark Souls, is a little to much to hope for.
For what its worth, I'll join your cause and name my character "Murgin the Misanthrope". Because I plan on interacting as little as possible with other players. ;P
