Console gaming parties and misinformed Aussie politicians!!!

This is my last weekend before I have to go back to work. =[

During my holiday I haven’t have the chance to play many games although we did have a “console weekend” last Saturday, where I invited friends over for drinks (Jack Daniels, Canadian Club, Beer, etc) and to play some Tekken 5, NHL 08, NBA 2k8, MK2 and SSF2 HD Remix beta. 2v2 NHL is awesome fun drunk! This weekend I’m going to my buddy’s place for a BBQ and some games, I can’t wait to finally leave the house! Also I am very pumped for SC4, so far it looks AWESOME and can not wait to pick it up!

Watch How Misinformed Aussie Politicians Are About Video Games:

Anyways, I was reading yesterday on www.kotaku.com.au about our Australian gamerating drama and it sure does suck to be one of us Aussies. I mentioned in one of my first blogs about Fallout 3 being banned here and this whole subject pisses me off so much.. ARRRGH!

The above snippet is taken from a relatively new ABC show called Q&A, which gives everyday people the chance to pose questions to politicians, journalists and the like. The latest episode saw the panel field a question about the lack of an R18+ rating for video games. The result... well, all I can say is wow. At this rate, we don't stand a chance. It goes for just over 7 mins.

Sigh, Yet another bunch of misguided opinions on video games.

Probably the same people who don't see any need for incentive schemes for video game development in Australia akin to the movie industry.

The whole subject is retarded. Seriously... I want the right to be able to go down to a store and purchase something that's 18+, not have it banned and treated like it's SNUFF or something totally inhuman.
Canadian Club is awesome to drink, i <3 it!!!!!! but i love my JD too!!
Thanks for the comments guys, I'm glad that some of you North American/Euro players now know how bad this is getting.

I cant wait till our generation takes the helm because this is just a product of generation gap. Eventually there will be a time when everyone knows video games are not killing simulators.

Wow. That was incredibly dumb.

@Player1 - I got drunk loads of times in GTA, but I've never tasted an alcoholic beverage, and nor do I intend to. It was just fun watching the character stumble around. In no way, shape or form did this influence me to get drunk and/or become a drunk.

Thanks for pointing this video out, Nat.

So why don't they just get a rating system so the people who are a certain age can buy them? They are making it much harder than it really is.

An interesting debate - I like the fact that the young man who brought up the issue actually had a bit of eloquence to him - more gamers should cultivate that trait.

Wow suddenly the whole M rated thing in america seems awesome right now. This is absolute garbage. These people have no clue what your talking about. All they think you do in gta is pick up hookers and get drunk. Wells heres somthing for you assholes.

Im 15. Im easily influenced. I believe alot of the stuff I hear. I picked up 0 hookers in this game and got drunk once. Did it have any effect on me. No. Maybe play the game before you judge it. And realize that people over 18 can handle it.

Wait, Canadian Club?  Are you from Canada?

I can't wait for SFIV to come out to have some parties with that.  It's going to be the revitalization of our drinking/gamefests.
