I don't mind membership if you're paying for something extra you wouldn't otherwise receive. It's when people attach a monetary value to something that has been free for months that really annoys me. *coughBombcastcough*
" They want $250,000 to not split the Bombcast by Friday. What is this a ransom? XD "
That's exactly what this is. Maybe a lot less actual cash because not all the subs will be annuals, but same principle. "
It's still at least $25,000 for free, weekly Bombcast which is still bullshit in my standards. As much as I love the Bombcast, there are other FREE podcasts that I can listen to instead.
Also, as I noticed someone mention, there's no way it's gonna go free. It takes a week for the member base to complete a 1000 person community challenge. Getting 5000 members just for the bombcast is way to hard.
The big deal to me is the podcast. It was the one thing that made me come to this site in the first place, to hear that it's being split for the free members make me cringe a little.
However, I'll see how this pans out. From what it sounds like, you get your news and new releases and stuff on time for the first week, while game impressions are probably going to be stuffed into the paid second hour. This does mean that game impressions will be "late", however, I think I might feel better about this if it was two separate podcasts, and the game impressions were given to subscribers early. It's a small thing, but that feels infinitely better than being told that I'm receiving half a podcast late.
I've been listening to a lot of podcasts, and I do feel like their holding the Bombcast hostage, especially considering how many other websites host podcasts of similar length for free (Rebel FM usually runs 2 hours and is recorded in an IGN editor's apartment).
I'll still visit Giant Bomb for quick looks and their other video features, but this did leave a very sour taste in my mouth.
