My personal thoughts: Killzone 3 (Multiplayer and Move)

Hello there, everyone. This is the Nemesis once again, and I think it’s about time that I write another thoughts blog regarding one particular game I am anticipating for 2011, which is Killzone 3.

But before I give out my thoughts on the how the game would kick-ass or not, I think it best that I show you a couple of videos regarding the game: one of which shows what to expect in it's multiplayer and the other which displays how the game would work out if played on the so-called Wii knockoff: The Playstation Move.

If you have seen this trailer, you would have probably known by now that the video is focused on how the multiplayer would be like with Killzone 3. And even though the trailer was kinda short, even for my tastes, I think it shows some promise for a few reasons:

First of all, the Up Close and Personal Melee system is a really nice improvement over the previous one that was used, which is basically just butting your enemies with your gun.  Though I would hope that I would perform more ways to kill my foes other than just force-poking them in the eye and kicking them or grabbing them and stabbing them in the chest.

Secondly, I practically squealed with happiness when I first saw the use of the types of vehicles for Killzone 3, though what the trailer basically shows is the use of the jetpacks and the mech used back in Killzone 2. Now at first I thought that the use of vehicles will make a single player into a more or less indestructible powerhouse unless taken down by a heavy weapon like an RPG or a Grenade Launcher. However, the trailer did show that even when one player rides a mech, he can still be open to enemy fire,  which balances it all out in my opinion kinda like in the Battlefield games.

Now that I got that out of the way, on to the next video:

My thoughts on this?

Well, to be honest, I thought the option to play Killzone with the Move controller is a nice idea at first. Though upon analysis of the video, I am not so sure it would work out 100 percent perfectly. For those of you who owned the Wii, or remember one of Jose’s VGRs, you would find that the game plays out almost exactly like Modern Warfare: Reflex Edition.  I may not own a Wii, but from my understanding, does that game have an auto-aim feature on both single player and multiplayer? Because from the looks of the video, there will be an auto-aim feature to be had if gamers play it using the Move. And chances are though that should the auto-aim feature apply on multiplayer, then gamers will be able to get kills easier than before, which is not a good thing. Let me explain why:

The Killzone series in terms of it’s gameplay is focused on how skilled you are with your weapons, which makes it in a way, different from the other FPS games in the gaming market. The game practically lets you work hard for your kill because there was no Auto-aim feature enabled at all, save for Killzone Liberation, although that game was an isometric shooter, not an FPS.  It is understandable that auto-aim will be enabled if you have the Move controller AND play the single player mode. But if that feature is allowed in multiplayer, now that’s going to be a big problem, for me at least. Then again, I don’t think a lot of gamers would buy a Move just to play Killzone 3 when they got a good enough controller as is, but what worries me are the people who actually play multiplayer with the Move. I will just have to wait and see. Hopefully I can get some more information out of Killzone’s website in a month or two. Until then, best hope that mmore information out of Killzone’s website in a month or two. Until then, best hope that my fears have not come to pass.

Speaking of fears and controls, I took a look at one of the updates Guerilla Games made onto their site regarding the issue towards the controls as mentioned from the fans. They are planning to resolve the so-called inconvenience that most gamers have had when playing Killzone 2 which is a less responsive feel to it. They aim to try and keep the weighty feel of the controls, but at the same time try to make it a bit more intuitive.

I will say this once and I will say it again: THE CONTROLS OF KILLZONE 2 ARE FINE!! IT’S NOT THE GAME THAT IS BROKEN, IT IS YOU! IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO GIVE THE GAME A CHANCE, THEN GTFO

This has been the most raging issues in some gaming communities in regards to Killzone 2. Some wanted the controls as is, and others wanted the game to have similar controls and be as responsive as a Call of Duty game. Killzone 2 focuses on the realism gamers would experience with carrying really heavy weapons, which makes the game pretty unique, in my eyes.  But regardless, if Guerilla Games is able to find a solution that will satisfy both parties, then that would be awesome, and I hope for the best.

This might not be the last time I give my thoughts on Killzone 3, though. Since there is still the beta for it coming soon, and I sincerely hope that I get my hands on it when it comes out. Though chances are the beta might come out after the Move is released. But when I do have a beta, or at the very least see some videos on Youtube regarding the beta, I will then be able to give my final thoughts regarding Killzone 3.

Thanks again for reading. I bid thee goodbye for now.
