My Best of 2011 (That I've played)

List items

  • Of the abundant number of remakes in 2011, this is easily the best. It truly sets out to "remake" the original, rather than upping the output resolution and slapping it on a disk. Overhauled menus, polished combat systems, overhauled class system, HEAVILY polished script, dazzling character art, fantastic orchestrated soundtrack, and tons of extra content that didn't make the final cut in 1995. This is easily, out of any game on this list, the highest bar in terms of pure QUALITY.

  • Great puzzles, hilarious dialogue, cool ending, hefty run-time compared to the original. Definitely a top-notch entry.

  • It's Battlefield. Battlefield has defined me as a gamer. While Battlefield 3 is not shaping me as previous Battlefield titles did, I can surely say that it's a hell of a lot of fun. Just don't touch the campaign or coop. I sure haven't.

  • More polished and enjoyable than Minecraft. I tend to zone out less in this game, and savor the challenge more. Lots to do.

  • The puzzle game by programmers, for programmers. Other puzzle games have very limited mechanics, where creativity doesn't win the day so much as thinking inside the box of the game's rules. SpaceChem has an entire sandbox full of tools, and forces you to think for your reward. And it compares your results to the population in general, damn them. Incredibly well-designed.

  • Barely played 1.0. I finally got bored of Minecraft!

  • Just because it's on the list doesn't mean I hold it in high regard. I simply haven't played many 2011 games. This is definitely the roughest of the lot. I disapprove, Bioware. And I've got a wary eye on Mass Effect 3. For sure, that one is NOT going to be a day one purchase.
