I for one appreciate Anet being strict about naming policy. This is an RPG, god forbid you have to make an actual ROLE-PLAY name. I think WoW has just jaded me to this, because they let you get away with all the stupid ass out-of-character, l33t d3wd names you want there.

That said, sucks for people who miss out on the headstart -- next time read the naming policies :)

Not everyone role plays though. What if you PvP only? Even if you're doing PvE, there should be no requirement to role play. I personally think RP names are really cheesy. There should be no naming conventions in a video game. Only overtly offensive names should be banned (racist, homophobic, pornographic, etc).

If you don't want to take part in an RPG, why bother playing an RPG? MMORPGs are persistant online worlds where the setting and lore has had years of manpower and money put into it to make it as engrossing as possible and people who want to get into that shit have every right to. So if ArenaNet wants to ban people who are ruining that experience for them by seeing someone named "Ballsachs McPwnsauce" then they can go right ahead and ban those people -- good fucking riddance, I say.

Also, I don't RP and never have. But I don't go around thinking I'm less nerdy than the nerds who do like to RP. We're playing an MMORPG, we're fucking nerds. Get off your high horse and read the EULA and policies.

Also x2, this isn't directed at YOU, just a general rant I have on the entire situation.

Sounds good. I added my GW2 account name to the spreadsheet and won't be in-game until Early tuesday morning (EDT) since I didn't "pre-purchase."

@New_Mandalore: Factions is the quickest campaign to level in and complete, but it also has the second least available HoM points. You can get to EotN (if you're level 10) through the major city of any campaign (Lion's Arch, Kaineng Center, Kamadan) by finding the NPC with the appropriate quest.

Gotcha. And to complete the other campaigns requires a new character right (you can't transfer between campaigns at lvl 20, I'm assuming)?

I'll probably tough it out with my Assassin (I find it fun and like how they look). Maybe I'll look up a build, I probably have a really bad one right now.

@New_Mandalore: It gets really awesome when you get Heroes, they're basically henchmen but you can alter their stats, secondary profession and their skills to customize them however you want, meaning you can copy the 7 hero builds peop0le post online that allow you to steamroll the majority of the missions in the game. You get a couple of heroes by starting the EotN campaign (a monk & elementalist) that might be worth doing at level 10 because you should be able to acquire them without too much trouble.

Edit: There's totally an event in GW1 right now that rewards a tormented weapon for completing four quests which will run until August 30th. All PVE mobs in the game drop a token that can be traded for spammable sweets & drinks too. Wayfarer's Reverie.

Awesome. I'm about to hit 10, is there a streamlined way to go to the EoTN stuff or will I have to look that up in a wiki somewhere? This game seems super cryptic and oldschool in the way that nothing is explained in-game...maybe it's just because I'm going in fresh (pretty much) after like 7+ years of being released, so it seems bloated to someone new. I kind of like that though, just clashes with my "need to hurry and play this before gw2 launches in 7 days!" logic.

Good stuff. I'll take a gander at that guide. I did start Factions because I heard it's the quickest campaign to 20. Could be wrong or just opinion though I guess. Started as a Rit but switch to Assassin. Don't really feel like starting over. If I can't get a ton of points it's no biggie, because I'm still enjoying GW as something to play before GW2, simply for the solo experience with henchmen.

I actually started up Guild Wars because I forgot I had randomly bought all 3 campaigns + EoTN a long time ago and never played. I'm playing through the Factions campaign because I heard that's the quickest to get through, then I may try to unlock some HoM stuff for my GW2 account.

If anyone is still logging into Guild Wars, please, PLEASE, whipser/add me because I don't know ANYONE in GW and I'm pretty clueless since I haven't played it since the beta weekend events of GW. My name is "Tunoku Taylorian" in it.

I'd be glad to help! My IGN is Angelic Vampyre, so just look for that invite and send me a PM here if you need help with something super difficult and I'm not in-game.

Rad. I'll add you and whisper if I see you online. I"m still just a little lowbie, trying to get to 10 real quick so I can access the HoM (still no idea where it is, but hopefully it will lead me to it).

I like the idea of keeping the whole community on one server, but EU and NA duders won't be playing at the same times anyhow. Wouldn't it be safer to just make two guilds?

Not all NA players play at "normal" or peak times for NA though. I know never do. Maybe one or two days of a month I will have a night off where I can play at peak times, but that's a stretch. I get my gaming on in the early morning -> afternoon. (I work nights or spend time with the lady at night)

I would love if all the EU people rolled on Yak's Bend, seeing as I ONLY play during non-peak US times (re: very early morning eastern US time) due to my work schedule. In previous games, this usually leaves me online with Aussies and other EU people, which is cool by me.

Also, they are going to offer free server transfers at launch. No idea if that means like "one free transfer" per account or just willy nilly transfers all you want, but this has been confirmed in an interview.

We need to be prepared to make extra guilds though, as a temporary thing until the main guild gets member cap increase.
