i double checked that all post-processing settings were turned off, no hdr, etc. i have played plenty of shooters on the Series X, i played through all of The Outer Worlds and it felt great, really responsive, the input lag was negligible. DOOM 2016 must just not be optimized for the Series X? i'm curious how it played on the One X though, because it seems to be universally praised for it's ability to run well.

edit: i'm going to install DOOM Eternal this weekend and give it a try and compare it to DOOM 2016. if it feels better then maybe it's just that DOOM 2016 isn't optimized for Series X.

i played through a bit of this game on Steam when it came out (using mouse and keyboard) and it ran totally fine on my laptop, but i got a Series X a few months ago and decided to give the console version a try and the input lag makes this game unplayable. yes, my tv is in game mode, all post-processing turned off, no other game gets input lag this bad. i don't understand how anybody can play the console version of this game, it's terrible.

is this just me? is this a Series X thing? was it this bad on Xbox One? or any of the playstation consoles?? this is the first console i've owned since 360 (not including Switch) so i mostly missed out on last gen.

ps. i bring this up now because Jeff Grubb mentioned on the latest GrubbSnax that Doom 2016 is an example of a game that runs great everywhere which blew my mind because it's so bad on console.

you can cancel the reservation at any time and get your $5 back, and i'm assuming there will be publications with preview hardware at some point, but i hope this turns out to be cool and don't need to refund.

i was hoping to buy a Switch Pro this year and "repurpose" my old launch Switch, but since that's not happening i decided to get a Steam Deck instead.

i started refreshing the reservation page at 9:59 (PST) and after a few refreshes the page loaded and i made the reservation, took about 10 seconds. a minute later the reservation page wouldn't even load though. did anyone else have any luck?

i noticed there is now a "Manage Cookies" button on the bottom left of the page that i cannot hide. when i login videos don't play until i click the button and make a change to my cookie settings, and sometimes videos stop mid-playback. i work around this by just enabling/disabling performance cookies. doesn't seem to matter what i set it to, as long as i make a change and save, then the video will start playing again.

i'm not sure if disabling video playback is supposed to be dependent on which cookies are enabled, but it seems stupid that videos are disabled at all, and it seems stupid that i can't hide the cookies button.

running Microsoft Edge Version 91.0.864.67 (Official build) (64-bit)

ps. my browser is set to delete all cookies when i close it which means i always have to log back in to the site, but this has never caused problems like this before.

I played Prey (2017) last year on a whim and was very surprised at how interesting and compelling the story ended up being.

you have to be into that hard sci-fi / Even Horizon type of setting, but there is a lot of good story there.

it's cool to see them doing something but i'm a little bummed it's going to be a streaming thing. i've been holding out hope on Giant Bomb getting back in an office together because i feel like that's where the magic happens. the streams over the last year have been nice but they've been missing something...
