I like that PSN is not just flexible with it's pricing for new games but also flexible when it comes to letting companies do sales and permanent price drops at any time.
Oblivion sold about twice as much as the preceding games of all of the series you mentioned (or more). Don't worry, Skyrim will do fine when it comes out.
I kind of wish I had a PS2 for more of it's lifespan. I didn't get one until way later in it's lifespan because I really wasn't into games so there's a lot of stuff I haven't gotten around to.

Call of Pripyat is better in pretty much every way and it really isn't plot depended on Shadow of Chernobyl so I would try to play Chernobyl first and if the problems in that game get too much to deal with, then get Pripyat for the best S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience.
