GOTY 2012

2012 was a great year for gaming ( like every year ) and the following ten games were the ones I enjoyed the most.

List items

  • xbox 360 version

  • Fez was a delight. Everything from the 8-bit type graphics to the music, it was a game filled with charm. Charm and some of the most mind bending puzzles of the year.

It took an eternity to develop but it was well worth it.

  • The soundtrack, oh just thinking about the soundtrack makes me want to play this game right away!

A violent, gruesome and challenging killing simulator. Maybe not a simulator but you do a lot of killing. Every level was more like a puzzle, you couldn't just run in an gun everybody down ( the lack of a gun was a big factor yes ) you really had to think about who to kill and when. And that music, goddamn!

  • " It was Monday afternoon and I’d already been thrown out of a party, been to a strip club and got into a bar fight. This latest mid-life crisis was certainly ticking all the boxes "

Max Payne is back and one of the games I've played the most this year, I've probably played through the Single Player four or five times. The wait for a new Max Payne game has been long but when I got in my hands I loved every second of it. Rockstar showed yet again they can do games that aren't open world and still make something great. The music by HEALTH is my favorite soundtrack of the year ( sorry Hotline Miami ) and the use of the song " tears " in the airport makes you feel like a badass, if you've played the game you know what I'm talking about.

  • Trials HD is one of the most frustrating and hardest games I've ever played, but in a good way, that " Just one more try I know I can get it! " kind of way and Trials Evolution takes everything the first game did and ratchets it up, the level editor is better, the tracks are harder and there is multiplayer. Play it, just don't blame me when you throw the controller through the window.

  • I for one LOVED the original Alan Wake, the television like structure and the mind fuck of a story had me intrigued all the way through.

American Nightmare doesn't have a story that's on the same level as the original but gameplay was solid with some nice upgrades in the arsenal that made The Taken even more fun to bring down and the use of FMV was excellent.
