My Game of the Year 2009 purely base on my own opinion

I know it's late considering that it is already February 2010 but oh well, I'm gonna do it anyway because I can't sleep. Now, I have only Playstation 3 so my games are limited to PS3. Also, this is purely base on my own perspective and taste so the chances are it is not going to be the same as yours or Giant Bomb's staff. I did not agree with their Playstation 3 only game of the year anyway. So I guess technically the right title of this list would be "2009 games that I remember the most dearly." With that in mind, let's do this.

List items

  • If anyone with a PS3 comes up to me and asks "dude, what is a good multiplayer game on PS3?" I'm gonna say Killzone 2. I know people are hating on this game because of its sluggish movement speed but you know what? I like it because of that. It differentiates from others. Plus, let's be honest, the game looks fricking amazing. But yeah, it might be a stretch to put it as a game of the year 2009 and I do admit that I'm in a minority in that regard. Oh well....

  • I finished this game so many times. In fact, I lost the count after 15. I simply love RE5. The gameplay was awesome, the story was... well.... whatever.... it did what it needed to do I guess, looked great and there were so many unlockables. I have rarely finished a game more than 2 times but I played RE5 like there were no tomorrow. I also enjoyed the Mercenary Mode a lot. Great game. I simply loved it. I do not understand people who complain about not being able to walk while shooting. I guess that is a personal preference.

  • Nathan Drake is a bad ass. I loved the story and the characters. The game was just filled with actions and I just could not let go of my controller. Almost finished the game in one sitting but I had to sleep at some point so that I could go to a class on the next day. Played the game again just to get all the treasures. Multiplay mode was okay. I did not play that much but it did add more qualities to the game that was already great.

  • At first, I doubted a lot about Dragon Age on PS3. After all, it is an RPG game that would be perfect with a mouse and keyboard. But it turns out, the game was pretty good to play with a controller. Of course it is not perfect and it takes some times to get used to but I could still enjoy the game a lot. Obviously, micromanaging element was somewhat taken away but nevertheless it still delivered a great RPG experience on a console and I appreciate that.

  • It is just great that the game actually shows you where are all the collectibles are. I am not really a "gotta catch'em all" type of guy but because the game shows where all the collectibles are, I ended it up collecting them all. Plus, the combat was fun too. When the lightning comes down from the sky and you clear out the whole roads, it feels pretty good. It was somewhat jerky here and there but it was never too much to bother.

  • Shooting huge bosses with a rocket launcher that shoots three rockets is very entertaining. Despite the fact that there were 4 distinctively different characters to play, the main focus of the game was not them nor the story. It was the guns. Purely guns. Borderlands really satisfied my thirst for loots. With the new DLC announced and the promise of raising the level cap, I cannot wait to go back to Borderlands.

  • I am not a huge comic book guy but I loved Arkham Asylum. It was just fun to play. The story was... well... comic booky, which Batman lovers appreciate a lot. I, personally, did not play this game because of the story. I just wanted to play as a Batman and feel like a bad ass, which the game does it successfully. Moreover, I loved the fact that the game did not use the raspy Christian Bale Batman voice. Thank God, they did not use that voice.

  • No explanations are required. So I am going to say what I did not like about this game because we probably all know too well about the positives of the game anyway. It was the story. I did not like a bit of it. Thought it was weird, unnecessary and dragging. I really hoped it would follow the tradition of COD and has a totally new story with a totally new main character. But the game brought many people back and as a result, the story became somewhat of a mess. The multiplayer was the saving the grace of the game, which is not a bad thing. But, I would rather have a multiplay only game than a half baked singleplay mode.

  • I loved the first game. So when I heard AC2 was coming out, I was very very excited. I finished the game, and I loved the story. But there was something that I did not like about AC2 that I just could not explain why. Maybe it was all the accents or chasing down your target to kill rather than actually "assassinating" him. Whatever it was, I could not really like the game. Truth be told, it was somewhat of a disappointment.

  • Unexpected? Me too. Before I get all the "why is game on the list and not Ratchet & Clank!!" type of comments, let me explain this. Ratchet & Clank was awesome. As a matter of fact, it was the best Ratchet & Clank ever. But I could not fully appreciate the game because some humors felt too young for me. You might say "it's like Pixar movies! It is for the general audience" and I totally agree with you. But even in some Pixar movies, some humors are just too cute for me to appreciate. I would watch Pixar movies with my kids which justifies its sense of humor. But it is not like I play games with my kids sitting next to me. Therefore. I did not pick Ratchet & Clank.

However, the Saboteur is not a better game than Ratchet & Clank. It is broken as hell, the story is mediocre and the game does not look good. But I found the game very appealing. Maybe because I like Sean's character or maybe I like the whole black and white thingy. It was one of those broken games that rarely had really good moments. And because other parts were so broken, the good parts really stood out. Of course that does not justify the broken gameplay. What I really appreciate about the game, despite the all the brokenness, was the ending. The sad theme song plays and Sean is walking slowly up to the Eiffel Tower left a really positive impression on me. Therefore, the Saboteur is number 10 the most memorable game that I played in 2009/
