as someone who farmed darkroot to level 95, I can assure you that you're not exploiting anything. The game is still going to kick your ass later down the road, no matter how many levels you have-- trust me on this one
I thought I would give New Londo Ruins a try because I had a few transient curses, I'm level 50 now, and I finally have some good gear (stone armor). The problem is, even with the curse activated, certain ghosts are still impervious to my spear for a pretty good chunk of time. Also, a group of like 10 ghosts that I couldn't hit because they were clipped in a wall destroyed me and I lost about 10k souls. I'm down to one transient curse now and I don't know where else to find them aside from the vendor, which is apparently a limited supply.
Anyone have any tips for Londo Ruins? Farming transient curses? I didn't want to go for outside help but all of the ghosts hitting me through walls and the impervious ghosts are driving me up a fucking wall. It just feels glitchy and unfair so that's how I'm justifying this to myself. so there.
(At least for your first play-through) I made the mistake of browsing a few pages on a Dark Souls wiki site, and while my foray into wikiland was brief, it drastically cheapened an important encounter that I probably could have figured out with enough time and patience, thereby robbing me of that magical sense of accomplishment only experiencing Dark Souls for the first time can bring. I'm at a point deep in the game where I'm wishing I could have my memory erased and experience the world again for the first time. Savor the journey, because that journey will eventually come to an end.
After getting off the elevator that goes from fireside shrine into undead chapel, i started running in the direction of the next bonfire when I noticed multiple bright projectiles coming at me. When I turned to see what was attacking me I saw a white crab-looking creature. It was pretty easy to kill and dropped some titanite. I'd made that run maybe 30 times but there was never a crab before and there hasn't been once since, although the lasercrab corpse is persistent even after visiting a fire. Anyone else been visited by a laser crab?
The only area I find consistent frame rate hiccups is the water zone approaching the two phantoms. Demon's Souls also had a problem with frame rate (which seemed a lot worse) when you got to the second act of world 2, but in both cases it hasn't been a problem for me because I play the game at a really slow pace.
fuckum dawg-- this is easily one of my favorite games ever but it's certainly not for everyone. I did the exact same thing as Jeff when I first jumped into the game, so I can totally see where he's coming from. Those ghosts must have killed me 20 times. I wonder if he'd be singing a different tune if he had stumbled upon that staircase to Undead Burg like I eventually did after about a half hour.
Kudos to From Software for doing any incredible job on the follow-up to Demon's Souls. The brilliant humanity mechanic adds even more depth to the already stark risk/reward in the original game, and while the combat feels largely unchanged, the enemy AI is downright devious and cruel. I don't remember having to watch for riposte stances in Demon's Souls, and it's that sort of extra layer of detail that makes this game feel like an incredible leap forward. I'm about six hours in so far-- how about you guys?
