Favorite games played in 2012, not necessarily from 2012.

Updated list. Seems I forget what games I’ve played over the course of a year. GB database to the rescue!

List items

  • Yup, this year, too. DLC kicks my ass, but I’ll make it through one day. No other game, none at all, gives me the feeling of wanting to scream and taunt bosses after defeating them. F##K YOU SANCTUARY GUARDIAN NOW WHO’S A DEAD SOUL HUH

  • This was surprisingly awesome, didn’t think I’d spend 40 hours with this game. Great music, and gameplay that works great on a handheld. Though "short bursts" isn’t what this game is about for me, it’s more ONE MORE SONG until my eyes don’t work anymore.

  • Another year, another installment of Professor Layton. Spiffy new 3DS-graphics makes this one a bit fresher, while the puzzles are just as tricky as always.

  • Yeah yeah. So hard, the music is so good, it’s so stressful. You’ve heard all about it.

  • I was pleased as punch with this space facism-simulator. Thing. Something about the serious, relatively low key marines really appeals to me, and as a bonus, it’s not without merit as a cathartic instrument after a long day at work.

  • Look ye upon this multitude of orders for delectable foodstuffs and despair; your customers shall grumble and revile you and your inept fingertips for not fulfilling their needs.

  • I think I mostly love the ambient sounds in this game. Really wish there was more of that recorded radio chatter. The slow but steady-gameplay is also appealing, and I guess a great argument for fiddly sim games of all kinds.

  • The comfort food of racing games. Not a single surprise in it, but I still play through it while listening to podcasts, every week. And if you don’t go for "splash wave" as your default music, you’re a reprehensible human being with defective ears.

  • I play this on my phone while waiting for stuff. And, well...we all know when we play mobile games. No matter, the soundtrack is pretty great, if you restart each level until your favorite samba tune comes up.
