i played a ton of PUBG last year and while i understand that the battle royale concept didn't start with PUBG, it's the game that popularized it the same way that halo wasn't the first FPS on console, but it's an important game because it showed people how you could do one of these games that could get people too intimidated by them up to that point to play it. I give fortnite originality points because the usage of a building mechanic can completely change the way a gunfight plays out, it adds traversal options, it allows you to fortify a position but also provides you tools to breach them. I started playing fortnite about a month or two ago now because i got frustrated with the rampant cheating in PUBG and the poor state of the xbox one PUBG version when i first started. Now, i just prefer it, it scratches the same itch but isn't as drab in tone or as plodding at times as PUBG and i appreciate that. Plus it's colorful, has good art, and makes me laugh at times.

There's definitely a wide variety of cheats in play at the moment. i've been playing a lot on PC the past week or 2 and every game it seems like i notice on cheater. One last night was so blatantly obvious he shot me from over 100m away through a tree, rapid firing an m14 without ads'ing and had no scope attachment. The shot went through tree foliage which should've obscured his line of sight and hit me directly in the head while i was prone on top of a hill that he already would've barely had line of sight to. Prior to that, he was firing at me through walls in a room with no windows from an even greater distance away.

Most of the other cheaters i see are less obvious but still have hints of BS. Like someone running around and suddenly turning 90 degrees and engaging you immediately from long range screams of wall hacks but i've also see a fair amount of connection manipulations (lag switches) and people programming macros into their devices to convert semi auto weapons to recoiless full auto death machines. i learned that one when i started noticing 1911's being emptied like micro uzi's.

Cheating is definitely the biggest problem in the game right now. I hope they do something about it. I would seriously be interested to see if just region locking the servers would help because there's no reason for people in asia to be solo queueing in the the US unless they're up to no good.

@notnert427: bethesda has a decent history of putting their games on sale pretty quickly. Doom 2016 was by all rights amazing and i remember seeing it be on sale less than 2-3 months after launch. Also yeah Wolfenstein 2 for $30 is an amazing deal, i had a blast with that game.

i put about 2.5 hours into it this morning before work. it's running great on my FX8320/R9 390 with 16GB RAM at 1080 on the ultra preset. Game looks great, plays fantastic, and the writing and characters are exactly what i wanted. My only gripe with the game so far has to do with the super early flashback scene that i felt had some objectionable stuff in it where young boy BJ is forced by is asshole dad to shoot his own dog. I found that pretty objectionable and i had to go hug my pup for a few minutes after i played that part. I'll murder video game nazis but the thousands but don't ask me to pull the trigger on an innocent dog. Other than that one part, i'm loving the game so far. Doom 2016 engine is proving to be amazing tech.

i've had the game for a couple months now and i've played it pretty much exclusively solo. I have nothing against squading up, i'm just in a situation where none of my friends play and i'm ok with solo queueing. It's a blast. check it out if it looks like fun to you and you have the PC to run it. . The builds keep getting better too so it looks like one of those early access games that is actually going to be released.

It appears to be GFWL free now and i believe all you have to do to redeem is click this link. Not a bad humble bundle this time around. $12 (assuming you beat the average) gets you a bunch of decent capcom games (and some mediocre ones) and discount coupon on Dead Rising 4, RE7, and Street Fighter V. Enjoy.
