I agree with what you said about Jade Empire, you should play it again before making that ridiculous assumption. Not only is it almost impossible to be worse than the dragon age games and Mass effect games, it is also really good.
@bigjeffrey: I think the point was that if you were interested in television features for your gaming console for whatever reason(I can't stress this more without being offensive(I added this so I could still be passively offensive)) then you can just get this to go with your PS4 or computer, that way you don't need to deal with the Xbox One.
@alwaysbebombing: I feel this is the most compelling argument for day one DLC, but you don't see it very often. Games have been $60 for quite some time now, even though virtually everything else has been getting more expensive.
Still, day one DLC is my least favorite solution to this problem.
@the_laughing_man: Yes, I believe on the pirated version(1.0) you simply had to edit a file to get access to him. Either way, the same could be said for many day one DLC, Rome II for example. I find it hard to believe that they were completely finished with the game, waiting for the release date when someone says,"Hey! Since we finished early, couldn't we add Sparta and Athens in and sell them as DLC?"
They cut two of the most famous and popular factions out of the game to be sold separately.
Games are pretty much completely built around consoles these days, so I am personally going to wait 6 months to a year after the next-gen consoles come out... basically once a game comes along that you might want to upgrade for. That will basically guarantee you won't need to upgrade until the next consoles come out. You also will want about 30% more beef than the consoles to tackle any visual enhancement mods your games might have.
Remember though, the longer you wait, the cheaper things get. Seems like a waste to upgrade in anticipation rather than to wait for the next new CPU or GPU(that you don't need) to come out so the one it replaces drops in prices.
With the announcement of Rome II selling a day 1 DLC for 3 fairly important core factions, I became interested in the discussion over it. Unfortunately, all of the discussions were on forums dedicated to Rome II where only die-hard fans or game bashers dwelled. I decided that it was time to check out this general forum that I have heard so much about, so here is my test drive of GiantBomb.
Day One DLC is hated and defended almost equally every time it is discussed, so I am interested in what you have to say about it. Does it bother you? Is there a line that must not be crossed? How do you think it affects the gaming industry as a whole? Do you buy it even if you disagree with the concept of day one DLC? If you wish to bring up pre-order benefits, please do as they are closely related to day one DLC.
