I think the issue has already been addressed in the site's mission statement: it's what they feel is significant to gaming as a whole, and thus it's an inherently subjective yardstick. I don't always agree with what they choose to highlight, but on the other hand for a small team they cover a lot of more obscure titles, and I think it's great that they do so contra the more 'objective' sites which are generally nothing more than vectors for advertisement and corporate earnings reports. I am glad that they speak their mind about the games that they play, as opposed to the standard style of game reviewing (ploddingly tread through the mechanics of the game to show what serious business this gaming thing is). If you want full depth of coverage then it should be obvious that this is not the site for you.
A more pertinent question would be, why do so many gamers get sucked into an ideology of consumer loyalty to a brand?
