Games I Regret Trading In

When I was younger, I was dumber. I won't go into how smart I am now that I'm older, but that's besides the point. The point is that I traded in a lot of games back in the day to get credit towards new consoles and games. It made sense at the time, but now I'm a bit of a hoarder, and every game I own is something personal, something I can't just get rid of with ease. Even if the game itself is a horrible piece of monkey butt-crud. Alas, here's some games I used to own, but traded in at EXB or Fun Stop or whatever the stores were called back in the late 1990s and early 2000s. I miss you all dearly.

  Set a hundred traps down and cry when nothing goes according to plan.

  How come no one else has tried to recreate a game like this?

  Sentient unicycles? Sure, why not. It was, after all, the era of the SNES.

  4. The Granstream Saga

  I miss this game like its character models miss their faces.

• 

  5. Oni

  One of the first games I ever bought for the PlayStation 2. Guess that's why I miss it. I don't remember it being very amazing.

  6. Donkey Kong Country

  I'd go bananas if I found a copy of this again.

  7. Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind

  Saving the world's yarn supply is a mission made only for one chatty bobcat.

• 

  8. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest

  Simple is as simple does, but I still miss this game and it's nice, easy-on-the-eyes sprites.

  9. Wild 9

  From the makers of Earthworm Jim, a fun platformer that focused on the darker side of things, such as torture.

• 

  10. Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain

  Horrible loading times, but the FMVs were so violent and bloody, and as a young teen, I thought nothing looked cooler than this game.

• 

  11. Robo Pit

  Each time you beat another robot, you got a new part to customize your bot with. Loved collecting 'em all.

• 

  12. Gex

  Wise-cracking gecko, and he's not even trying to sell me car insurance. A fun time, actually.

• 

  13. Breath of Fire III

  Dragon-morphing, go!

  14. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

  Lent to a friend, never got it back. Boo.

• 

  15. SaGa Frontier

  Loved how random earning new powers and abilities felt, as well as multiple storylines, some that crossed over each other.

• 

  16. Brave Fencer Musashi

  Stealing abilities from enemies, a day/night cycle, interesting platform segments, collectible figurines, deliciously good puns...this game had it all!

  17. Star Gladiator Episode 1: Final Crusade

  Silly fighter from Capcom. Loved using the dude that grew three times in size.

• 

  18. Star Ocean: The Second Story

  I still have the guide book for this game. Wah!

  19. Treasures of the Deep

  This is a game I bought for my childhood best friend and then borrowed myself, ending up keeping it and then trading it in. What a weird cycle.

  20. Beyond the Beyond

  A pretty unimpressive RPG that I thought was really impressive as a wide-eyed teenager that didn't play many RPGs at the time. Ahh, youth.

• 

  21. Blazing Dragons

  A silly, goofy, very British point-and-click game for the PlayStation 1. I remember some of the puzzles being highly illogical, at least for my teenage brain.

• 

  22. Colony Wars

  My first time in space. No, really--I truly believed I was in space with this game, and just spent hours flying around, never heading to my determined target. Oh how I miss it.

• 

  23. Vigilante 8

  A more stylish car combat riff on Twisted Metal, with a lot of vehicles from the 1970s. Remember the quest missions being quite fun.

  24. Impact Racing

  Pew pew pew, drive drive drive!

• 

  25. Grandia II

  Why did I trade in this JRPG? WHY DID I FIRST BUY IT? So many questions to explore.

  26. Home Alone

  Specifically, the Game Boy version. I don't recall ever even getting up to the end fight with Marv and Harry, but this was still a lot of fun.

  27. Samurai Shodown

  A pretty cool fighter I had for the SNES in lieu of actually owning a copy of Street Fighter II.
