@nekroskop I am glad to see you "get it"... wait a minute. You seem to be a bit sarcastic ;)

And having equal performance has little to do with install base. Its about marketing, money and time.

@vinny_says I agree, those are also good, logical reasons. Not as cool or nonsensical as mine but good.

@dystopiax: Its sound to me. I have had both systems for a long time and I still prefer the Xbox layout, buttons, triggers etc. I just prefer it. The PS4 may be improved to a major degree but that does not change the layout or the "feel" of the controllers. I prefer the Xbox style of controller. Its as simple as that. I suppose I could change my mind if I had hands-on with the PS4 controller but I won't. And I strongly believe the touch pad is a waist of controller space. I dislike that as much as the Kinect :) but I can just ignore the Kinnect. I would have to have that touch pad staring my in the face all the time. That all being said, I agree that my logic is flawed (did you notice the title and my last statement)

@zfubarz: Of course. That feeds into my point. My point is that the messaging was bad, not the idea. Including the Blu Ray makes sense to support the old model. What I was saying is that they should have just left the old model in place (physical games) and not touched it and should have put all there messaging into the new model of digital distribution. Then, people may have realized that the new model is pretty good (i.e. Stream) and people would have heard it because they would not be shouting about the old model. So, they had to spend all this time and effort backpedaling instead of getting people exited about digital distribution.

I am sure it will all still happen with both Sony and Microsoft. But Microsoft had a great opportunity to appear as a LEADER in this new model but wound up as a scapegoat for DRM instead.

Looks like they did a 180 on the Xbox One DRM. Too bad they did not figure this out until after E3.

The linked post is actually very good. It makes a big point of stating that we now complain about Gamestop but we also complain when offered a way out. Personally, I am ready to install a game and forget the disc, or better yet just download it but there are a lot of people who just refuse to see the positive side of digital distribution and MS is trying desperately to come up with a transition plan but their PR is just not good at all.

@joshwent: Yes, I agree. Sony is doing this much more effectively then MS at the moment. And yes, Sony is planning on doing some of these things. That is the lost opportunity of MS to do the same or even better.

@zfubarz: I am not saying they must "give up discs" they just don't need to change things. That too is exactly what Sony is doing. Main point here is that MS should should have been more proactive and Sony did a better job here by not touching the 3rd rail of gaming "used games" :)
