Good Games I Don't 'Get'

Good games, for one reason or another, I didn't really get into.

List items

  • Great RPG, but for whatever reason, didn't keep my interest to stick with it to the end. Much preferred the sequel.

  • Love the art, and the light/shade battle mechanics are pretty cool, but the encounter rate put me off. That said I'd like to give it another try sometime.

  • I played this on a OPM demo disc as a kid and declared it the worst game I'd ever played (rabbit running along a straight line didn't captivate me). Apparently it's regarded as a cult classic? Would love to give it another go now with some extra years under my belt.

  • Any game where you can potentially level up to 9999 and each item has a randomly generated 100-floor dungeon is something that would interest most RPG fans, but Disgaea proved to be a bit too overwhelming (and, if I had got into it, very time-consuming I'm sure).

  • The Peter Molyneux hype machine caught me hook, line, and sinker for the first game and I felt it was a bit of a let down. Everyone seems to rave about the sequel, but it just bored me after playing something like Morrowind or Oblivion.

  • I played somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of XII, but it never really took off for me. The setting is cool and I really like Balthier, but the "active dimension battle" (ADB) and gambits I never fully got to grips with.

  • My first Rockstar game (bar Table Tennis), and based on this I probably wouldn't enjoy the rest of their games. The critical and commercial accolades obviously show its a good game, and I love the look and setting, but it just hasn't gripped me at all.

I never completed Eternal Sonata because I lost interest but I lent it to a friend and when I went round to his he was on the final chapter so I could see what I missed. I didn't really miss anything much I thought. Enjoyed Fable II quite a bit but that was probably because I never played the original and still haven't to this day. Knights of the Old Republic sort out of lost it's appeal to me because I find out the games biggest shock before I even played it.
