@Willy105: I don't know about that... if you're interested in purely the story, and not the MMO aspects, I'd say just try to complete the story in the first free month that will no doubt come along with the boxed copy, and maybe 1 or 2 additional months if it takes that (no idea how long the story's going to be) Then cancel. If you are interested in the MMO stuff, then its really no different than paying for another MMO like WoW. If you already play another sub-based MMO it shouldn't be too much trouble to cancel for the little bit you try out TOR, right? Only so much time in the day, and all that :D

Additionally, ad support is only as profitable as your game is popular. I'm sure the game will have a huge initial spike of interest, not unlike other MMOs like Age of Conan or Warhammer Online did. But let's say that, like those other examples, player interest drops off after several months. The value of the ad space will surely go down. I'm sure EA/Bioware doesn't want to take that risk. Its a far more stable business model to just receive a flat fee per subscriber, and they can then easily scale their output of content/support to match the subscriber level. Whereas with ad support, there may be a point where there would be no potential buyers for ad space; Where does EA/Bioware get its money to support the game now? Imagine then what would happen if EA suddenly tried to spring subscription fees on its few remaining players...

@Gylfi: I totally logged out and bought that right then and there. I knew there was some kind of DLC but it wasn't until that guy straight up told me that I'd be getting a base that I was like "Yes. I need this." So I actually think that was a really good idea.

It did strike me as a little weird, and I almost wished that there was a little bit of a Grey Warden training period. Something like the beginning of the original Fable, where each thing I learned sort of progressed the passage of time and let me grow more attached to the supporting cast. I could see that they were trying to go for that a little bit with the quick fetch-quest they give you before the ritual, but since I blew through that it about a half hour the effect was a bit diluted. On the other hand, the fast pacing is doing a great job of keeping me engrossed and interested in an age where games are all about instant gratification.

My general position with most games though is to raise my suspension of disbelief to allow for things like the extreme compression of time, so it didn't bother me enough to turn me off to it.

As another example, my Human Noble has a grizzled complexion and stark white hair, and I look at least 20 years older than my "elder" brother (and 10 years older than my father.) I kind of find myself wishing I could go back and change my hair color, but not enough to start over. I actually did try, but I made my dude in the Character generator and for some reason, changing the hair color in the full game resets the entire guy. I can get past it - its not bad enough to make me want to re-do my whole dude.

I was planning on getting a new 360 anyway since mine is a launch console thats already red-ringed once and been repaired, and now is out of warranty and has a 2-red lights overheating issue if you leave it on for more than an hour.

I was gonna get the $299 elite but 2 controllers and a game I was going to buy anyway sold it. I'll assume this has the HDMI output and all the other Elite console goodness, too?

" I told you to only try it after native gets boring so you'd be experienced and eager for a challenge by that point :P

Exhaust native first, it throws new stuff at you every so often as you play, and is worth experiencing. After that you can try mods. Trying mods first will just make native seem bland because it doesn't have this or that thing the mod had, or whatever. You'll appreciate the mods more if you actually notice the changes they do after all. It doesn't sound like you've played enough of native so far. The game may not last as long that way.

Sword of Damocles will be good as well. Sure, the invasion may put you off a little but it happens after a full year of game time so you'll welcome the change by that point. The other features the mod has are worth experiencing, imo. You can separate your party and have them follow you (like you often see AI units moving around together), or command them to do stuff like lords can do (patrol an area or whatever) for example. "

Well I just got elected Marshall, and that's awesome, except that the Lords (even ones I have 100-200 influence with) seem dumb as dirt and decide to leave while I'm in the middle of sieging a City. I see them run off while I'm resting between assaults, and figure they're chasing some bandits or whatever. But they don't come back! I'm hoping they fix this in future versions.

You're right about wanting stuff from mods now... I miss the super fast Horse speed :P But I did really feel vulnerable on a horse in Expanded Gameplay, I guess because of the Realistic Combat mod. I like feeling super powerful on one like I do in Native, and I guess it would be too easy if I also moved at like the speed of light. Still, if anyone knows where to get that horse speed increase stand-alone, I'd love to throw it into Native :P The animation adjustments were pretty awesome too, and I kinda miss them as well.

" You asked for better sieges and I give them to you CLICK HERE this will have everything you want and they work "
Nice yeah I grabbed that, the multi ladders helps a LOT... the AI is still pretty dumb though in the city sieges - there's a ladder but they won't use it 'til the siege tower rolls all the way up, and they'll sit there and take arrows to the face the whole time. I've actually seen guys move into a more exposed position, even when they're weilding 2h weapons and no shield, just to get totally pincushioned.

" I played a decent chunk of this around the time of the retail release.  I enjoyed it to begin with, but my campaign with the Mongol dudes became one siege after another (and the sieges were laughable at the time - literally your army trying to run up a plank and break through their army standing at the top). It's pretty impressive, but I think it fell short of it's potential.  I'd be happy to check out a sequel if they properly implement sieges.George Martin should have sold the Song license to these guys instead of Cyanide Studio (Cyanide? Srsly?).  There's an ASoIaF mod for M&B but I don't know if it's any good or not. "
I tried to download the ASoIaF mod, but all links to it were broken. As I said before, I am a 3D modeler and animator, and if there was one mod I'd actually love to jump on it's this. I agree with you; Song of Ice and Fire is tailor made for M&B style gameplay.

I was assuming "Halloween" is kind of like when Smith was making everything dark and crazy at the end of Revolutions? I'm not sure though. Maybe the MXO devs are like my crazy neighbors who never take their Christmas lights down...
