@PandaBear: I don't see how the banter of Giant Bomb is relevant to the game they're playing or what about Vinny's shenanigans? I love them for that, but saying he's insane for no reason is just weird. I thought shutting Game Bomb down was a no-brainer, but Dave doesn't want that for whatever reason.

How exactly would he go about that? Any actual litigation would require the enforcement of the Russian government, and that's very unlikely to happen.

I think they guys go off on tangents ... but this was mental. He spent half an hour trying to attached an artillary cannon to a truck in some ArmA type game. Screaming 70% of the time.

And yeah, why shut them down? It's too funny and the legal headaches would be a waste of time and money ... let the crazy rip off Ruski site live.

Isn't gaming the only area Sony are currently profitable in? Why would they give up most of that revenue?

Well actually, their biggest profit areas are Financial Services, Music and Pictures. Music will only increase as they recently bought most of EMI's publishing rights. Electronic devices are their big revenue generator, but not profit.

evidence != proof

"Well, it's more speculation than proof. Just a catchy thread title, y'know."

And this whole thread is proof of what exactly? The PlayStation and PlayStation 2 were a licence to print money for Sony. The rocky start to the PlayStation 3 was their own doing, but they've nearly caught up to Microsoft now. I don't even own or care about the PlayStation 3, but you need to not get so sucked into the hype of crappy video game sites barfing up 'analyst predictions' and bullshit rumours. They'd sell off movie and game IP before abandoning consoles. Use your head.

And cloud gaming? Come back in about a decade. Isn't it some small percentage of gamers who actually play online? And do you have any idea what broadband connections are like around the world? What about the infastructre they'd have build around the world before the inevitable Xbox 720? Like I said, use your head and don't buy into all this shit so easy.

I like the voice of the guy who does the GameTrailers.

Agreed.

I find myself only reading reviews in the last year or so, usually supplemented with a Quick Look. Usually works for me.

The GameTrailers reviews are really great and have excellent editing - it's a shame what a cesspool the community for that site is.

Truer words have never been spoken ... they have some really good original content over there. But those user comments ... fucking hell they're bizarre. It irks me that I don't know who actually does the reviews, but whatever...

On a side note, I actually like the Angry Video Game Nerd reviews ... I can see that he takes the job serious. Too many of these YouTube game reviewers with ATTITUDE! just suck. AVGN puts time into editing and pacing. I don't often find his reviews all that funny, but I do actually find him entertaining and informative in a strange way.

So out of the games franchises I never thought I'd never see another installment of Tex Murphy was always right up there (Hover! for Windows 95 is top of the list haha). But now it seems likely... if the Kickstarter can get enough support.

Anyway, it's an awesome game series. The FMV had the right amount of cheese, the puzzles were smart and unlike a lot of other video heavy games from 'back in the day' the actual GAME part of the Tex Murphy games was great. The Pandora Directive is still in my top 10 all time favourite games. I hope fans get behind this...

I've made my pledge ($150 + $15 international shipping), but I'm seriously considering going up to $500... ugh I'll debate this in my head for a while longer. Anyway, here's the link ... check it out.

Doesn't really matter. All they're doing is removing the content from the disc but you'll still have to shell out a premium to unlock it through a download. Is it less offensive than the RE5 Mercenaries mode being on the disc? Absolutely. But it's the same fucking thing essentially.

It's not just the on disc stuff that's bad, it's holding back content that is already done in an attempt to make a 60 dollar game an 80 dollar game. It's holding back A FUCKING ENDING to sell to you later. On disc DLC is the most vocal problem but it is far from their biggest problem. Anyway, what do I care. I swore off buying Crapcom games the second that Super Street Fighter 4 got announced and the whole RE5: Mercenaries thing. Right then and there I saw what they were doing and I quite clearly said, "No thank you sir."

The thing they need to realize is that the consumer isn't an arcade. Back in the days of the arcade they could sell multiple versions of the same game because the arcade owner would buy it and therefore would generate interest and revenue in their arcade from players. The consumer wasn't taking the hit outside of the quarters which they were probably going to spend anyway. Now they are taking that hit and Capcom needs to be much more careful, and a whole lot less ignorant, in their business decisions. I've also heard them say, "Well that's how it's done in Japan."

Yeah... go fuck yourselves.

Pretty sure I played a TON of Mercenaries in Resident Evil 5 just by finish the campaign... and that game had HEAPS of unlockables and two DLC chapters that were cheap and awesome. I think you mean Versus mode, but as Capcom said at the time they had to put in a lot of extra work to get it going and it was only done after the game's new co-op proved popular. It was a big download... there was no on disc DLC for RE5.

Capcom have stumbled lately, but in the past they've been one of the better companies to put extra content in their games. I think it's a company with limited DLC experience fucking up badly. But I wouldn't write them off yet ... I mean DLC is optional and as long as the core game is good I'm ok with it.

Story seems better than average, but god, I don't have any desire to play the actual game again. Nothing I can't get better somewhere else. Feels like Uncharted if they ripped out all the good parts.

Pretty much this.

The cover system is broken in my opinion - so you can hold and release A to sprint and take cover ... except you snap to cover when you don't want to without pressing a button. Gears of War did it right - you hold A to sprint or tap to go into cover. That way if you release during the sprint you can stay standing then snap to cover when needed... one button was used to change you from standard walking to sprinting and cover - simple. Spec Ops just felt clunky. Press A to sprint, release OR press to enter cover, hold up and press A to sprint forward from cover but only on the edge otherwise you press B to climb over cover and then A again to sprint???? FUCK IT!!! It's not OVERLY complicated, but it's just inelegant. Cover in a cover based shooter is vital to get right.

Story and visuals could be cool though...

...sexy cosplay...

What? Tell me more.

You have my full attention.

I would also love to know more about this Sexy Cosplay party. Also Jim Sterling is pretty great.

I think the Jimquistion is actually not bad ... hate what he does on Destructoid ... but he's not all bad.

http://kotaku.com/people/ashcraft/posts That's Kotaku with on Ashcraft stories... But I don't see how you can bash other writers on that site (who usually also suck) and defend this. Different strokes I guess...

as if Brian Ashcraft's obsession with sexy cosplay, Gundam and other "news" wasn't bad enough.

Brian Ashcraft's stories are the only reason I occasionally regret deleting my Kotaku bookmark.

I wish there was a site where I could just read his stories. At least he sticks to his guns and doesn't pretend like he doesn't.

And what's wrong with Gundam?

Taken from Gawker's advertsing profiles:

"Kotaku is the definitive digital hub for video game news, reviews, cheats, design, and entertainment. It tracks the genre's spreading popularity from hardcore obsession to casual gaming in pop culture and social media."

Off the top of my head I recall the time Brian Ashcraft wrote about a Japanese homeless man dying near an arcade which he disgustingly tried to relate to video games. Then there's his love of cosplay, cosplay, cosplay. Anime/hentai, anime/hentai, anime/hentai. Perverted crap, perverted crap, perverted crap. Gundamand Gundam. Not news, not news , not news and not even interesting... why bother reading his crap at all? It's offensive what they do for page views.

"Read by both developers and the players who idolize them, Kotaku is the lifestyle bible for millions of button-pushers and console fiends." -Kotaku advertising profile.

So he wants to write about junk? Go crazy. But let's not act like this is anything more than "Japanese girls are hot" and "Kotaku needs more clicks, here's some non-news". Then they attempt to do real news... but the credibilty is gone. It brings down gamers as a whole and makes game journalists look like horny otaku losers. Kotaku isn't a video game site, it was once...

If you want you can filter Kotaku to show only his stories... if you're into that stuff. Also, I was probably a little hard on Gundam.
