It'd be called something else anyway ... Sega were good at naming consoles... Mega Drive, Saturn, Master System... It'd be like the UltraCloud, Sexual Chocolate, MasterBlaster, Jupiter, Nipple Butter, Spinal Kick... something weird

I don't think Giant Bomb should become a dumping ground for links to reviews on IGN.

This review made me lose all respect for IGN (what as left)... they teased it for ages with videos showing scores Minecraft won't be getting and justified it by saying "this is the final version the developer wants us to play". But as Jeff said on the Bombcast, you can't charge money for a beta. I completely agree... if you charge money you forfeit to right to say it's not complete. By that logic any game could come out with a "version 0.1" sticker on it and be review-proof.

There's nothing wrong with reviewing it I guess... I'd be interested to see other sites take on it. But their whole way of doing it like constantly doling out dumb videos to get extra clicks and gushing all over this new fad just reeks of pandering.

@jakob187: As I said before, Minecraft should be reviewed I think... it's no more pointless than reviewing Little Big Planet or Trackmania. It's telling people "this is a game worth your money".

@Terranova said:

Looks like they will say anything to get sales and readers these days, i haven't read a gaming mag in years as they just cant be up to date as much as online sites can be.

Yeah, video game websites can get bullshit rumours that haven't been fact checked or come from a reliable source out to the public WAY quicker than magazines. This is not personal attack Terranova at all, but too many people on here are way to forgiving of this. If it was IGN or something there'd be rabbid maniacs here declaring "IGN is teh ghey", but not here? All I'm saying is this "news" wasn't worth reporting on and this apology isn't even an apology... it's everybody else's fault apparently. Be a professional Patrick, check your stories or declare shit like this as "RUMOURS!!"... or better yet, wait 48 hours for it to be proven baseless lies.

And I'm not Official Xbox, Nintendo or PlayStation magazine fan AT ALL, but you can't blame someone for ASKING Kojima about MGS5. They did the story, they got the quote. They don't have to confirm or deny it to anyone, it's their story. It's up to the other "journalists" (ie Patrick) to CHECK THE FACTS. Not report them as fact and wait for them to be revealed later.

Regurgitated conjecture from other websites that neither the Offical PlayStation Magazine UK nor Konami would confirm became front page news on Giant Bomb, followed by a half hearted apology that blames everyone else for the misleading information. Great job Patrick. Now all we need is some more Kotaku-style blog posts about "Should I get into driving games?" in the news section and the cycle is complete.

This was fishy from the start. Metal Gear Solid 5 may come one day, but this was hardly worth reporting on... no quotes, no confirmations, no images or concept art. And lets face it, Official Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox magazines around the world are pretty much garbage.

Nintendo limited editions - honestly I think these are a solid investment. Whatever the next one is, buy it and flip it on eBay in a week. Search eBay for the "Mario 25th Anniversary" thing... I'm in Australia, but our dollar to the US dollar is about 1 to 1 at the moment (if anything we've been ahead lately) and the shitty PAL version SELLS (not listed, sells) on eBay for around AU$90-110 ... I got my PAL copy for $60 new, haven't touched it and plan to sell it. We may get mad at Nintendo fanboys for complaining that Skyward Sword doesn't have a 99 on Metacritic, but at least they'll buy my old junk at stupid prices.

tl;dr - Over zealous Nintendo fanboy will pay WAY too much for stuff.

I haven't bought one since launch. Serious. Wario Ware Smooth Moves is an awesome game, Twilight Princess bored the shit outta me and I refuse to buy another Zelda game for a console I despise... no matter how good it looks.

I only keep it because I hoard things and to remind myself that buying a gimmicky console is a bad idea... it's next to my 3DS with a copy of Rayman in it. sigh

To be fair, I'd ruin it. I don't know why, but I would.

Also, Final Fantasy VIII holds up pretty well. I'm genuinely surprised.

Ironic thread seeing as you don't have to look too hard for a "Call of Duty is for boys who are virgins and don't like cool games like I do like Ico and they're sexist and don't judge me because I'm a woman, etc" article on her blog... Google SVGL, there's one on the front page. Again.

Ok so I tried it again (found some spare time, a few hours actually) and it works again. It did take longer to find games, but it could just be a bad night. So yeah, not 'back to normal' but nearly. Crisis averted haha
