At least while waiting for GB's GOTY there's the somewhat adjacent Waypoint Radio's Games of 2020 pod

and Dan, Mike & Mary's GOTY 7 hour deliberations.

Would add Game Informer Show's Looking Back at 2020 show and MinnMax's Awards + Top 20:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNdMBoj7rwA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lorM-wUNuoA

Starting to think they may have been better off doing GOTY as just a plain 2 hour Giant Bombcast this year instead of putting it off. Kind of feels deflated now. Ready to move the heck on from 2020 now.

Thanks for the link! This show looks legit can't wait to listen.

And I agree with your sentiments on the timing of GOTY for 2020. Feels a little anticlimactic to have it in January.

Beginning/Middle/or End of January?

They said middle/end on a podcast or a stream somewhere. No firm date yet though.

Thank you! Really wish they were more clear on their communication here with their dates, but I imagine it must be extra difficult this year.

I signed up to applaud a games journalist, no less, for having the steel to apologise and admit that the original article posted was shit. Well done, it's a rarity.

As for OPM, well selling those rags in the year 2011 is hard work.

So uh, any idea what Greg has been up to these days? You know, being part of the original Gamespot crew and all...

Sony is kind of killing it on the box art lately.

I know!

I hope this becomes the norm with all their releases.

Pretty sure Mexicans haven't been subjected to the same amount of racism and prejudice as black people and Jews. "
I think that's the point he was trying to make. I believe he wanted to say that this would have caused a lot more controversy had Jews or Blacks been the topic of conversation. I don't believe it was his intention to imply that Mexicans have had comparable experiences to Jews and Blacks.

I do believe he was trying to say racism is wrong and people may be ignoring it on the basis that Mexicans haven't faced similar injustices.

This segment is pretty hurtful. It was especially hurtful when the commentators made a joke about the supposedly painful realization of waking up and realizing that you are a Mexican. I understand that it can be said in good fun without the intent to insult anybody, but people have to realize that merely because someone has good intentions does not necessitate that their actions result in a positive outcome. Sure you may find it funny, but you find it funny at the expense of everyone else being laughed at.

For people saying everyone needs to grow up and chill out, there needs to be a little more empathy. I'm not suggesting everyone has to suppress their thoughts and feelings, but rather people need to educate themselves. It's all too easy for people from privileged groups to ignore the realities people from disadvantaged groups face. I'll give a few examples:

Unfortunately I don't have specific information on white vs. mexican relations but the following accurately describe relations between privileges of dominant groups vs. disadvantages of lower status groups, and I can provide citations for my information if they are requested.

White privilege vs. Black disadvantage

  • White's are less likely than blacks to be arrested; once arrested, they are less likely to be convicted , and once convicted, less likely to go to prison, regardless of the crime or circumstances. Whites, for example, constitute 85 percent of those who use illegal drugs, but less than half of those in prison on drug-use charges are white.
  • Whites are more likely than comparable blacks to have loan applications approved and less likely to be given poor information or the runaround during the application process.
  • Whites are charged lower prices for new and used cars than are people of color, and residential segregation gives whites access to higher-quality goods of all kinds at cheaper prices.
  • Whites can choose whether to be conscious of their racial identity or to ignore it and regard themselves as simply human beings without a race.
  • etc...

These examples are not exclusively related to matters of race, they are also present in other intergroup relations namely:

 Males privilege vs. Female disadvantage
  • In most professions and upper-level occupations, men are held to a lower standard than women. It is easier for a "good but not great" male lawyer to make partner than it is for a comparable woman.
  • Men can generally assume that when they go out in public, they won't be sexually harassed or assaulted just because they're male, and if they are victimized, they won't be asked to explain what they were doing there.
  • Male representation in government and the ruling circles of corporations and other organizations is disproportionately high.
 Heterosexual privilege vs. Homosexual disadvantage
  • Heterosexuals are free to reveal and live their intimate relationships openly---by referring to their partners by name, recounting experiences, going out in public together, displaying pictures on their desks at work---without being accused of "flaunting" their sexuality or risking discrimination.
  • Heterosexuals can rest assured that whether they're hired, promoted, or fired from a job will have nothing to do with their sexual orientation, an aspect of themselves they cannot change.
Disability disadvantage
  • Nondisabled people can live secure in other people's assumption that they are sexual beings capable of an active sex life, including the potential to have children and be parents.
  • Nondisabled people have greater access to education and health care. They are less likely to be singled out based on stereotypes that underestimate their abilities and be put in "special education" classes that don't allow them to develop their full potential.

The truth is a lot of these things are funny because of their shock value. What a lot of people don't realize is that at an unconscious level by saying these jokes and defending these jokes they are very likely reinforcing implicitly held negative attitudes (thoughts held at the subconscious level) towards the group being made fun of. Implicitly held attitudes are hard to detect specifically because we don't think about them at a conscious level, but they can still affect our actions.  In the context of this TV show the white males who come from a historically privileged group, are making derogatory comments at the expense of a group which was not only conquered and dominated by white males (Spaniards) but is still in many cases under heavy if not dominating influence from the United States.

It's important to note, that by saying these things I'm not accusing all whites of being racist, or all males of being sexist, or all heterosexuals of being homophobic or all non disabled people of holding ableist attitudes. I'm simply trying to say that it's easy to forget or not even think about these realities when it is not your reality.

A lot of people may not like or even agree with these statements but there has been a lot of psychological research done on this topic, if there are doubts I can reference some psychology experiments that look at these issues along with the relevant statistical data.

For anyone interested in more detail on implicitly held negative attitudes I can direct you to this interesting website:

At the main menu select "settings", from there select "campaign glitches" and in there you will find a list showing what levels you glitched your achievement in.
