The Last Airbender: Why are the kids mad?

I love Avatar. I remember seeing it in high school and getting excited over the martial arts and the movements expressing the bending. I would wait for new episodes and enjoyed the playfulness of the characters and Sokka's sarcasm. I wish there was more and got a little disappointed with how it ended, but I watched the whole show again on Netflix and it made me happy.
Unfortunately nothing of the movie is making me want to go see it. And I saw the Chow Yun Fat Dragonball Z. I would go see movies that were based on TV shows and games and give them the benefit of the doubt, because at least it resembled it. I drew the line on Avatar and so did everybody who thought that the actors didn't look the part. I would've went with the flow, but the Avatar kid look's mad all the time. That's not his whole character. Sokka doesn't look funny and the short clip of Katara and Zuko fighting looks lame. And it appears from the commercials that the movie encompasses the whole first season and everybody's pissed off. I can not believe I need to make the decision to not see this movie. For the first time, I will wait for the Blu-ray.

I'm going to go see it because some crazy shit is going to happen in it.  Stuff is going to blow up.  Elements will be bent.  It is going to be great.

hmm that boy looks like the boy from the movie Slumdog Millionaire

Posted by Red

Yeah, it looks terrible. The costumes are unconvincing, and the actors seem absolutely terrible. I do, however, know a bunch of people who liked the show who are treating its release like the second coming.

Making a live action movie off of an animated cartoon is just a dumb idea.

Movie also has 0% on Rotten Tomatoes right now, out of twelve reviews, practically all of which gave it their lowest score. Includes Roger Ebert.

You can see that or Eclipse this weekend. The choice is yours!

Oh my god that clip makes me not want to go see it. Terrible.

Posted by RelentlessKnight

I rather watch this over Eclipse any day!

Ebert was not favorable towards the movie in his review.

Cause Dev Patel is Zuko.

Ebert's a bitter old man, and what the fuck are you smoking, OP?

That fight scene looks awesome.

It's a shame, because the cartoon is so amazing. Oh well, I wasn't expecting it to be good, but I was hoping it would at least be watchable. From the reviews it doesn't sound like it's even worth my money.

I hate Ebert also, but that fight scene looks so bad compared the to show. It's so slow paced and boring looking. He's barely even shooting the fire, he's just kinda tossing it at her...

I'm just curious what the big twist will be.

Hahaha, a more convincing argument there is not.

that looks incredibly lame and just awful. ryan needs to TANG this even though it isnt even technically based on a video game.

i never even heard of the show until, the GB crew started talking about the easy 1000 points in the game. Now there is a movie?

Posted by Gruff182

I love the cartoon so i'l go see the film just because of that, though i'm not expecting much.

That fight scene was far to slow paced and I'm not a fan of the look and mood of the characters. I think Zuko will be ok, none of the others seem to show the spirit or personalities, of their toon counterparts.

I loved the show, and I'll give the movie a chance, looks kinda stupid though

I'm definitely watching the movie.

I enjoyed The Happening for all the wrong reasons. It could happen again here. M Night takes laughable material and plays it completely seriously, that's the recipe for an A grade B movie.

I'm going to go see it, but I expect the worst. Why am I going to go see it when I know it is going to be horrible, you might ask? Pressure from friends and a disposition for torture.

That dudes face needs to be burned more and Katara is not white. She had tan skin

Posted by Illmatic

This is one of those movies you watch to say you were there when the bomb exploded.

Really dude? Really? He hasn't made anything not worth laughing at since Signs...

Well he changed it so that firebenders, except for the elite masters, require a source. The movements themselves were pretty good, I thought, though the unnecessary pausing does make it seem a little slow, and I agree that it's not as good as the show. But there's no way this could possible be as good as the show, it's so epic. I thought it was quite good over all. Dunno what's so terrible about it.

Clip doesn't look like the fast paced combat the show had. They should be running around more and Zuko should be throwing SHOOTING fire, not grabbing some that's already on the ground.

Is this another thread where Ebert says something you don't agree with so it has to mean he's in the wrong?

I had hopes for this but I see that it is tracking a 10% from the "Top Critics" on Rotten Tomatoes.

"This colossal folly, the fiasco of the summer of 2010" - Roger Moore / Orlando Sentinel

"The Last Airbender is an agonizing experience in every category I can think of and others still waiting to be invented" - Roger Ebbert / Chicago Sun-times

"Not since Kyle MacLachlan's whispered voice-overs about the worm and the spice and the worm IS the spice in Dune has a fantasy franchise tripped all over itself trying, simply, to please a fan base while creating a new one." - Michael Phillips / Chicago Tribune

"The Last Airbender is a joyless, soulless, muddled mess, but the worst part of all doesn't come until the very end. That's when it makes the clear suggestion that two more such movies are in store for us"  - Christy Lemire / Assciated Press

"The movie was foolishly converted to 3D after principal photography, but if anything, this conversion is worse than 'Clash of the Titans.'" -  Kirk Honeycutt / The Hollywood Reporter

With last year's horrible Street Fighter, Transformers, Wolverine, Dragonball and G.I. Joe (well that one was "meh" at best), has anyone noticed that summer blockbuster movies seem to be getting worse?  With Prince of Persia, Jonah Hex, Avatar: TLA and the for coming Sorcerer's Apprentice, where are the good movies that used to come out at summer?  Even Iron Man 2 is best described as "good if you liked the first one".   I guess you could say we still have Pixar, but animated movies are not quite the same thing in my book.  Looking ahead to the rest of the summer, there is Predators and Inception.  If those don't live up to critical expectations, this will be one of the most joyless summer film seasons in recent memory.

The visual effects look great.

@EpicSteve: Or you could just re-watch Toy Story 3. I might just do that.
Posted by Tactical_Kill

I'll see it cause I loved the show. I hope its good but I'm expecting the worst.

Posted by TheGreatGuero

I think it's really awesome that M. Night Shymalan is making this. Also, I'm glad to see Dev Patel and Cliff Curtis are in it. I won't see it in theaters, but I'd definitely give it a chance when it comes to DVD, if it ends up being any good.

Posted by Animasta

I just hope the guys who made avatar are working on something new; it was really one of the more refreshing cartoons I've seen in a while.

Posted by Sarumarine

It doesn't look good for the movie but it was probably going to end in tragedy anyway. I mean, c'mon. No one can defeat Cliff Curtis. Heh.
