Hearthstone - The Journey! (Day 1 - 01/06/14 AM)

Day 1 - 01/06/2014 (AM)

Introduction

Having listened to the 'Angry Chicken' podcast answer an E-Mail where they determined it would take on average 1000 games for a level 25 player to get to Legendary rank with an average win rate. I've decided to see if it's possible for a (non professional) player like myself to achieve such a feat!

First of all, to even play 1000 games in a month would mean playing at the very least 33.3 games a day. This is no guarantee of getting an average win rate, but it would satisfy one of the supposed conditions for someone to achieve Legendary.

Skill Level

To give some introduction to my skill level at the present time, I have only been playing Hearthstone since it came out of beta in April. I finished Rank 18 in April & Rank 14 in May. I have played some Mtg in the past but am in no way a ccg aficionado!

Due to finishing in Rank 14 last season, I started this season at Rank 20. This should give me a slight head start in games played according to the 33.3 game average needed.

It may be said that a 'good player' would need far less than 1000 games to get to Legendary before a season end. This experiment is meant to represent your average person beginning from scratch without past card game experience or the community ties to coach him!

Deck

My main deck is a variation on the standard Hunter trap deck substituting the Leeroy (not in my collection!) for a Ragnaros. I understand that Miracle Rogue is very much du jour at the moment but I neither have the cards or experience playing as Rogue to do this.

--------

As such my results against the classes were as follows

Mage - 1/1, Hunter - 3/0, Warrior - 1/1, Shaman - 1/0, Druid - 0/2, Warlock - 3/2

Paladin - 0/2, Priest 1/2, Rogue - 1/0.

Findings :

The main problem I was encountering was a large amount of taunt heavy players which made it difficult to deal direct damage, necessary when playing this deck. I will need to formulate a strategy against Druids & Paladins & expect to win in most situations against Hunters.
