the downloading was a problem but it is something u have to do when updating any thing.

Yeah the PS3 pretty much has got it all except for the online..

Couple of things. For one, Metal Gear Online's doesnt have the largest community out there and very few people use a headset. In addition, the game has been out for quite some time now, so all the players are EXTREMELY skilled (those guys can get headshots from half the map away in about 3 seconds.)  Personally I didnt like MGO, I feel that the Metal Gear Solid 4 mechanics are difficult to use online. In addition you have a very niche group of elitest, who arent the nicest people in the world. The BEST thing about that game is that there is a section where people can start up servers and coach people on the game. Really good stuuf there. Again, since the game has been out for so long, there have been many patches, so they take some time to download. Also MGO doesnt run on the PSN, it runs on Konami's propriatary netword, so basically it has to go through two networks, that may be another reason why it so slow/retarded (why they couldnt use PSN baffles me). Also, I'm gonna warn you, only because I went throught the same thing. SOCOM updates, are HUGE. No funny business with them, and there have been multiple patches (the game when it released was serriously gimped, but its improved a lot.) so it might take a while to download. I'll even bet that it'll take longer than the MGO update. Also I'm not sure about Ressistance, but lots of gamers on PSN dont use a headset, only because Sony doesnt bundle them with it. SOCOM, at least to my knoledge has a good community. I strongly recomend getting Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare (unless you'd rather wait for MW2). The community is larger, but imo their skill level hasnt gotten any better. Also you'll have annoying brats and such, but if you have a party going, its pretty rad. Background downloads are only available for anything being downloaded directly from the PSN Store, so you wont be able to background DL patches. Also I wanna say, congrats on your purchase of the PS3, I hope you have fun. Welcome to the network. 
 
Sucks about walking in the rain part, but if its any consolation, it started to rain when I was waiting for the MSS4 launch. Though I did get my coppy signed by Kojima, it was still raining, and my feet were pruney. Also I met cosplayers for the first time in my life. They're pretty cool people.

   thats funny cause I feel that the 360 controller has a weird deadzone. I play it when I go over to by bud's house, and I can never do as good as when I'm playing on PS3. To each his own I guess.

I had a similar experiance when i got my ps3, i got used to the controller fairly quickly tho and now i dont notice a differance between xbox and ps3

Sounds similar to my first opinions when I got my PS3. Updates are annoying and I found having to plug my controller in to the PS3 rather than switching out batteries when it runs flat a bit annoying. The controller never sits right with me playing 1st person games for some reason theres a huge deadzone, otherwise I'm still happy with the PS3 as my second console.

I just got a PS3 a few days, ive been planning to get one for a while, and I thought id post my thoughts. Perhaps most of them will be the same or similer to others but thats to be expected.

1) Installation

This is a double-edge sword I suppose, in the first instance while it installs its annoying (I loaded up Metal Gear Solid 4 as my first game and sat for 20 minutes looking at Snake smoking) but compared to Xbox 360 games they seem to load faster. Im not sure if I totally hate it, and I understand why it happens, but for a first time player its very anti-climactic to spend half an hour walking home in the rain with a big shiny "steal me now" box and then to sit cold and wet waiting.

2) Online Experience

So far my online experience has been very annoying and lonely. I chose Metal Gear Online as my first online game since I had MGS4 in the drive but I had to update which is fair enough but I sat for an hour and a half and got to twenty percent. This is particularely annoying since it didnt tell me how fast im downloading, how much ive downloaded, how much there is to download or allow me to download in the background. Ive tried to update this game a few times but after giving it a total of 4 hours I got to 79% where it gave me another error and restarted at 0%.

3) Playstation Store

The store works well for the most part except without going on my PC (or PSN Internet Browser) I cant tell the size of a download unless its free. For me since I have a slow download speed (and technically a download limit) I would like to know this sort of thing before I make a purchase.

4) Cables

This for me is a welcome change from other consoles because quite often ive lost the battery pack or charging cable for my Wireless Xbox 360 Gamepad but since the Dualshock 3 has the battery pack built in and the connection is a MicroUSB to USB cable (which is also used for most other things it seems) I have many of them lying around from my PSP and other peoples phones etc.

5) Communication Features

For the most part adding people as a PSN friend is easy and quick the only "problem" is that there is no support for Voice messages which would be a lot faster and easier for me until I get a USB Keyboard and leaving it permanently hooked up in front of my TV. This is mostly a non-issue but its worth noting.

6) Blu-Ray

Having the ability to watch Blu-Rays is awesome. I dont plan to get a Blu-Ray over a DVD (except maybe Planet Earth) but watching The Dark Knight in 1080p on a ~42" TV was a great experience and fantastic film and I love that I now have that option.
