@nagafen: I live in the UK, and I have a 970, and I primarily use a 1080p monitor. If most people you know have 4K displays, that's cool for you, and them, but you can't act as if there's a huge demand or potential audience for 4K video for GB based on that. One look at the Steam Hardware stats shows that you are in a very very small minority, and targeting that audience is really not going to be justifiable for GB.
I remember Jeff talking about how one of the reasons why they have ads on the podcast now is that it eats up a huge amount of bandwidth for CBSi, and having a revenue stream associated with it makes it easier to justify. 4K streaming (even though it would obviously be to a significantly smaller audience than the podcast) would have fairly obscene bandwidth costs, particularly if they were to do it in 60fps which, seeing as they're a games site, is at least as important as the resolution.
Add to that the costs of equipment necessary for that sort of move: streaming via youtube is a very simple process. Using your own solution? Not so much, particularly when you have a multi camera or multiplayer setup. I'm no expert on this aspect, but Vinny has gone into quite a bit of detail about the difficulty of getting 1080p/60fps in the past. And apart from the streaming hardware, based on the PC build videos (where I believe they used a 780 Ti) and Vinny's comment in this stream that they've ordered 970s for the office, the hardware they're actually playing the games on isn't capable of running 4k.
It really isn't as simple as "I have a 4k setup, so do my friends, if they're serious about games, why don't Giant Bomb??". I have no doubt the guys wish it was, but, it's just not.
I'm booking a flight to San Francisco. I will head straight to CBSi HQ, stand in front of Brad and Dan and throw a coin beside them. When they look at me confusedly instead of examining the coin, I will shout EXACTLY and get back to my return flight.
@gregalor: I think people hate Endurance Runs now? Someone asked about it at the PAX East panel and as soon as the words "Endurance Run" were mentioned by someone asking a question there was a rush of booing from the crowd.
Pretty sure that's because that question has been answered to death, not because people don't like ERs themselves.
@giantlizardking: You don't need to work in development to have an opinion about workers' rights. In any industry, expecting an 80hr work week as routine is obscene, and "well then go work somewhere else where they don't ask that of you" is a woefully inadequate and optimistic response. Individual workers simply don't have the power to make demands like that, the "hassle" of unionising is inevitable if there's to be any substantial, industry-wide change.
