Since the GB community is the only forum community I can trust to make fun of me simultaneously providing insight I figured this would be my best outlet for a question like this (Hopefully)
I'm a Digital Journalism major at Walter Cronkite in Arizona. As a full time student with a full time job to support myself I find myself being stretched really thin. For a BA I need 4 semesters (2 Years) and proficiency in a foreign language, I chose Japanese because it interests me and it's relevance to the game industry.
While it is an incredibly difficult language, my study habit are allowing me to stay afloat but my social life and other grades to take a bit of a hit, the question I'm asking is it going to be worth it? I have 3 more semesters of it to go now.
With Japanese games starting to have less pull in the western market, and with the recent disasters in Japan I'm worried that by the time I have my degree, proficiency in Japanese wouldn't have the same pull on a resume as it did 10 years ago when the Japanese market was substantially more relevant.
I'm deciding between sticking with it, and being miserable for 2 more years, taking an easier language like Spanish, or Switching to a Communication degree and graduating sooner.
Also, now I've found more interest in stand up comedy as of late
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHZnFX-vXAc I feel that any degree combined with my extracurricular activities and exposure would be more relevant to a Video Game Journalism.
Friend's and family don't know anything about the game industry and very little on the disaster's in Japan so your guys' insight on my predicament would really help me make a more informed decision.
