Jan, you’re a wizard and a treasure my man. You’re a natural host and I know you’ll rock the podcast going forward. Also, this pod made me very excited about the future of the site. Looking forward to where things go from here!
Big Drew vibes from this Jake fella, especially hearing the audio only
When I listened to this recently I realized I would want a pod with Jake, Drew and Mike (Mahardy). But without any one of them introducing themselves so you have to constantly guess who's talking.
That TMNT theme had a real ’Tv-Theme Cover Band on Spotify’ vibe. The way he sings the lyrics is what kills it for me, not the instruments. Like Vinny noted, it feels very ’I’m guessing how this should sound based on lyrics and tabs rather than listen to the original’. I don’t mind a cover that takes liberties, but it’s not taking liberties, it’s just not doing anything unique. Every other cover has that off-vocal melody. Which makes it feel extremely phoned in.
And suddenly I became one of those nerds I didn’t think I was. Oh no.
@mortimer: While I generally don't care about pronunciation of games as far as trying to say it 'locally' as opposed to some globally agreed upon English pronounciation, and if most of this game is in English it's even less relevant. But, I still find myself at odds with your take. As you have alluded to, Valheim isn't a place in norse mythology. It's a place created by Iron Gate Studio. Yet despite it being created by a Swedish developer in our time, you're trying to retrofit it to old norse and use that as some way to disregard a Swedish pronounciation. The name isn't old norse. It's perhaps inspired by similar names from norse mythology, but it's an entirely new name written in the greek alphabet by a bunch of Swedes so the pronounciation should be based upon that, not what someone speaking old norse a thousand or more years ago might have pronounced it as. Hell, they might even have read it themselves as how someone speaking English would. I don't know, us Swedes are weird like that, thinking too much about English.
But also, your post made me revisit my interest in old norse, runes and old Swedish dialects, which has been a refreshing read. So I'll thank you for that!
@Brad - Hell yeah banana/mayo sandwich. Throw some buffalo tabasco in there as well and it’s golden. I made that as a goof one night due to lack of other stuff and realized I had made something real special.
