I ended up changing most of the controls after realising how the default keys messed with my head. LShift controls my left hand, left mouse button controls my right hand, right mouse button sprints and V uses my equipped power. I made these changes after 20-30 hours of switching between game-pad and mouse and keyboard after realising how 8 hotkeys makes my mage smoother to play. Am I insane?
Edit: On an added note archery doesn't feel too weird since some fps assign Lshift to steady sniper aim by holding your breath which works suprising well with the whole zoom and slow time perk.
My second character is a Khajiit, and I don't regret it. He makes a perfect rogue/thief type and the bonus in unarmed damage means that brawls are a cakewalk, even on master difficulty (though I have yet to brawl another Khajiit). There is always the nifty console command on the PC version "showracemenu" which allows you to change race and make cosmetic changes to your existing character, if you are so inclined.
My sneaky Khajiit is also pretty invested in the illusion school and i make ample use of the frenzy and invisibility spells, so when stealth fails i have some amusing and practical alternatives. When I'm out of magicka things turn rather ugly as i have little to no defensive skills/perks. Its a rather risky approach to combat and has proved to be pretty fun. I have been playing on expert but i soon bumped it up to master after level 10ish to up the ante (and satisfaction when I make it out alive).
The whole dual wielding system just works better with a controller simply because your RH controls the in-game RH. Having 2 mouse buttons that are normally used by one hand to control the opposite side is really weird. Maybe changing E and the right mouse button might feel more natural?
Edit: I gave it shot, its worth trying ive got M2 set to activate and E for my left hand and M1 for my right hand. The menu controls as it normally does.
I really liked the mage college which was an obvious choice for my full-mage to complete, it was pretty fun and you end up with some spiffy unique mage loot.
Telekinesis was a bit gimmicky but still cool to mess around with. Clairvoyance is actually pretty helpful when navigating tricky terrain or multiple paths. The transmute spell which converts iron into silver or gold ore is great to make some easy money. However on my full mage I have never used any of the repel undead spells. I usually just smoke 'em on sight.
I sniped her in the throat with my elven bow which was enchanted with fiery soul trap, so I lit her on fire AND stole her soul. The orphans running around cheering seemed humorously appropriate.
