Sony Boss Slams on 3DS

Nintendo caused quite a stir at the E3 gaming expo with its glasses-free Nintendo 3DS. In an interview with Japan's Sankei, Sony Computer Entertainment honcho Kaz Hirai had this to say about the glasses-free 3D tech:

"In in-house research, naked eye 3D for portable machines is not high and there are presently limits for it."

Sony has always done this before with Nintendo, but usually later down the line they will release a PSP with 3D capabilities that doesn't have 3D glasses. I really don't think Nintendo has anything to worry about it, they already have their fans hooked on the 3DS, now they just need to sell it.

Not only fans, but the gaming press is calling it the next best thing on many fronts.

Hardly "slamming" them. Hes probably right. Doesn't mean it wont be good. The Wii launched and it was rather limited motion controls as well till Plus came along.

"naked eye 3D for portable machines is not high"

Meaningless statement is not rectangular.

He criticizes the product, and you somehow interpret it as him insulting the 3DS. There is a conflict of interest here, after all, why would Hirai praise the compition's product?

Same reason people in the movie industry praise their competition. You think when the Dreamworks Animation CEO does an interview his handler tells the press "don't bring up Pixar"? No. This brand of pettyness is kind of limited to gaming. When someone on the other team gets something right, you can admit it. Unless you're a child.

Did I say the contrary?
I sure did like it when Steve Jobs complimented Microsoft on their new OS. Wait that never happened. This pettiness isn't limited to gaming.

Sony watched the biggest console ever completely flounder in the face of 1:1 controls because nobody gave a damn and now that's their big selling point. Pathetic.  Not only are they petty, they're incapable of seeing when the competition gets something right and why it worked even as they copy the competition. Pay 180 dollars for a peripheral that might be supported or spend 20 dollars more for the same peripheral and an entire console that you know is supported. Hmm tough choice. Gotta get that goofy looking boy wizard game, purchase justified.

Wait-Wait-Wait......What?!?!
That's "slamming"?!

Have we completely lowered our expectations of competitors, in this case Sony, making public statements against their competition?!
Unless it truly was sinister. Those sons-of-bitches! What dareth dark quote did Sony conjure?!

"In in-house research, naked eye 3D for portable machines is not high and there are presently limits for it."

That's not slamming! That's a pre-written, context-free observation, with the same level of smite as bean-counters talking amongst themselves in cubicles. I assume the next sentence in conversation was a complaint regarding the temperature of the coffee. The coffee is free for a reason! Go back to work Kaz!

No. That is not slamming. That's corporate dribble. You want a story about Sony "slamming" something, look no further than this duder:

Windows 7 is just XP SP3 but cleaner looking (yet buggier). Why would Jobs compliment that? Hell the only people satisfied are people who are switching from Vista.  All I'm saying is its not inherent. Sony's still treating this like "my TV is better than the other guy's TV", in general the creative field is full of people who are inspired by their competition, "us vs them" is left to marketing shills and retarded fanboys. People don't generally go "that idea sucks" while secretly working on their own version of it.

@vidiot:  Kevin Butler is clearly tongue in cheek.

Jack Tretton and Kaz Hirai have shown over and over again that they lie through their teeth and don't know when to shut their faces lest it may bite them back in the ass down the line. Sometimes I wonder why Sony don't have PR reps grafted to their hips.
