I prefer the psp, I like the games.  If you get a slim it has skype too, which works great btw.  What's cooler than talkiing for free with friends (that also have skype) anywhere in the world.

For a small monthly fee you can also make landline calls.  As long as you are near wifi access it's like a cheap cell phone.

I had a squire strat as my first guitar, for the money you can't go wrong.  I would change out the pickups though.  I actually got a Kramer with 2 Seymore Duncan humbuckers in it, for like $200, that thing sounded awesome.  If you can find one of those I thought it was way better than the squire, it didn't feel or sound as cheezy.

However if you could wait until you could afford an American Standard Strat, those are the best.  I have 2.

Knowing some theory helps, even just basic theory,  then practice, alot.  That way you aren't shooting in the dark.
