@lab392: I agree and I would like to add to that.

A piece of paper you spent 4 years and thousands and thousands of dollars to obtain should be seen as an investment towards some return for yourself, otherwise if you've got the cash to blow and the free time go ahead and pursue any degree.

What can you even fit into an 'E-sports degree'? Will e-sports even be a thing in a decade, or hell even by the time you order your cap and gown?

I have a college degree and it has been very useful in helping me make far more money than I would have been able to without it, and I would add that the time I spent with such a diverse group of people from all over really helped me grow as a person, but I feel like you really have to treat it with the scrutiny that you would any other very large investment. I think the above advice of something more broad like marketing/finance/mba would do you wonders, and the internships/social networking you do will be far more impactful anyways when it comes to landing a job you really want.

I appreciate all the responses!

I have spent some time thinking about the Index and I realized another problem or blocker with this whole setup. It's a cold G to get this headset, not to mention the fact that you need a computer that can actually power the thing. Some people on here did mention a few games I didn't know about or forgot existed, which were pluses for actually getting the thing, but I can sometimes be very sensitive to motion sickness, which is something I am concerned about with VR.

There doesn't seem to be a great way (especially in a pandemic!) to "see" VR in a way that would quickly convince me I want it. I saw a 4k OLED and knew it was pretty damn awesome, but even before Covid I wasn't about to put on some nasty display headset on in the Best Buy.

I guess I could always look into Valve's return policy, but this also strikes me as probably a big reason I never took the plunge before.

I was looking at the Valve Index recently and it seemed pretty awesome. For a moment I was seriously considering if I should finally get into VR, but after looking through the VR titles on Steam I gave up.

Seems like it is basically Beat Saber, Skyrim VR, and a lot of janky looking games I have never heard of even though these headsets have been out for years and years at this point.

What is everyones opinion on VR in 2022? Is it 3D TVs all over again, or are there some gems out there I missed while skimming through Steam?

My surprising obsession with Elden Ring has really had me thinking about what I even want out of a Bethesda game lately. I'm not sure what to expect from Starfield, but Bethesda's track-record over the past decade haven't inspired much confidence from me.

Skyrim came out in 2011, and Fallout 4 was alright, although I got tired of the janky base-building pretty quickly.

Fallout 76 was an absolute disaster in my opinion. I have tried more times that I feel good about to give that game a shot (usually after a big update), and trying to play that game with friends is miserable.

Skyrim was an absolute banger, and what they were able to do in a handful of years after Oblivion on the same console was really impressive to me. Since then it's been nothing of note from them.

Long development cycles of any software project become problematic, and generally fall into almost a waterfall cycle, where you had all these ideas and requirements soooo long ago, that by the time you actually release something it isn't near what the user wants/desires because things change so fast. Root causes to this are generally out of whack project scope and poor development pipelines, I wonder what state the game is actually in right now.

Do the people talking about lack of in-person content realise that the main team is now spread across multiple cities and states?

I think most people know/realize that, but it doesn't invalidate the criticism. I'm still subbed because old GiantBomb content is still the best to have on while working/playing certain games, but I do really miss the in-person chemistry.

I get that it is working out better on a personal note for everyone involved and I hope the best for them, but it just doesn't work for me. There is only so much production value you can get from every "show" being people on webcams talking on zoom from their living room/home office. I think the quick looks still work well with everyone remote, but the other stuff just doesn't do it for me.

I think Nextlander's inception points to some of the core GiantBomb staff having the same thought process as me: things were best when it was a group of close buddies owning a small business together. The thing that worked, and what in my opinion differentiated it from other websites, was the authenticity of the relationships and the total control over what they did. This stuff is more common now with patreon, and I think things like Red Letter Media are close-ish analogs to old giantbomb, just people who have known each other forever and all have a shared passion. It really does make the difference to me at least.

Maybe I've just "aged out" and that's fine, I'll still stay subbed here and watch old videos while I work or while I'm cooking. I hope they find success in a post-covid world, things are very, very different (on this website and just in general) than when I joined 10 years ago, and its a testament to their product that they are still here chugging along.

What is the point in any of that? What is the value you will derive from automating a bunch of clicking tasks?

Persona 3 Portable. To my knowledge it has never been released on any other platform. I keep hoping Atlus will announce some sort of remaster of it on modern consoles for the Persona anniversary thing, but so far no dice.

I recently bought that digital (retail copies at my local used game store are going for over $100!) for my Vita in a random fit of Persona obsession and I just can't get into the changes where everything is a menu. It feels less immersive to me, and I found that to be a bummer. I had never played 3 before and I thought the story was pretty cool. I'd totally be down for a proper remaster of the original.

I think, in their own minds, they were scraping the bottom of the barrel for Game Tapes aside from random demo discs. The orgianl game tapes were literally Betamax tapes they had from the Game Spot days. After that they sprinkled in a few PlayStation, Dreamcast and Xbox demo discs. When they did a demo disc it was mostly the ones that said they had e3 coverage.

Maybe, in eight or nine years, they can go back and talk over their 2015 to 2019 e3 coverage. That when nostalgia for such thing will be relivant to them. I loved all the episodes they had no matter how pedastrinan in constent, but I cna understand they were doing it for the More recent videos is just not interesting to them, they are in their late-30 and middle-40s; time goes quick for us "olds", so stuff from 2016 feels like yesterday - not Kitsch.

90s Kitsch.

Demo Derby was well before Game Tapes. I can agree that there is only so much of that actually out there, but it was cool to get these snapshots in time, and also nice for archival purposes.
