Games Turned Into Movies Turned Back Into Games By Rival Game Companies

In this crazy Video Games world, how many games are turned into movies by Hollywood? And how many of those movies get their video game treatment afterwards? And how many rival companies pick up the development rights to such games.

  • So Capcom makes a franchise, Street Fighter. It's a swell game - popular with the kids. Hollywood takes notice (seems this is the step that takes the concept into a dark alley). Rights are negotiated, and a movie is developed. The end, right?

NOT EVEN CLOSE. After a kid-friendly movie is produced, corporate logic dictates that companies gotta 'squeeze every last drop from that lemon'. Toys, posters, a comic book, the works. What about a game?

Really? A game? Based on a movie? Based on a game? Nintendo was smart enough NOT to let the 'Super Mario Bros.: The Movie' get turned into a game. But Capcom? Hmmm...

Well, if you're gonna do something wrong, might as well do it right. So, like scientists fertilizing human eggs with chimpanzee sperm, a game was made...BY A RIVAL COMPANY. Acclaim Entertainment, Inc., known for its digitization methods for the fighting game series 'Mortal Kombat', a game series positioned as the arch-nemesis of Capcom's Street Fighter, was brought in and, lo and behold, a bastard game was born.

My friend has this game intact for the Sega Saturn. Do you think it's worth PDFing the actual game manual?
